Consider how the striking of clocks at midnight, Dec. 31, 1999, rendered the name New Millennium Writings obsolete.

At least certain critics and even some friends of my literary journal said so ten years ago. I never saw it that way. For the rest of our lives we’ll live in the new millennium unless the world’s intelligentsia, aided by endlessly flashing ones and zeroes, comes up with some Forever Formula to drastically extend our lives, surely a mixed blessing. Either way, this thousand-year cycle we entered a decade ago has barely begun.

Being Muslims at the Wrong Time in America

Post-9/11, America declared war on Islam with the FBI in the lead at home. It notoriously targets the vulnerable, entraps them with paid informants, inflates bogus charges, spreads them maliciously through the media, then intimidates juries to convict and sentence innocent men and some women to long prison terms. Justice is nearly always denied. At times willful killings are committed. The Detroit Muslims are their latest victims.

Is the US too big not to fail? For everything there is an ideal size. An enlarged heart will not function as well as one of the ideal size. Giantism is a health risk.  Some of the recent losses in the US economy were caused by banks that were too large to be regulated efficiently. Empires don't survive. Size matters.

A dream turning into a nightmare
 
Imagine a charismatic and power-hungry politician supported by a clique of financiers and industrialist, being elected President of the world’s greatest democracy, on a pseudo populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness, a universal health plan for every citizen and, more importantly, promising millions of jobs thanks to billions of dollars going to the world’s richest men on Wall Street and the city of London.
