America is a nation of losers. It’s the best thing about us. We're the dregs, what the rest of the world barfed up and threw on our shores. John Kennedy said we are "a nation of immigrants." That’s the sanitized phrase. We are, in fact, a nation of refugees, who, despite the bastards in white sheets and the know-nothings in Congress, have held open the Golden Door to a dark planet. We are not imperialists and that’s why Bush lies and Cheney lies and, yes, the Clintons lied. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 54

Who I'm voting for in November A strong bold and clear definition of the proper form of government, one deriving its power from the citizens solely to protect the rights each individual is born with. Fifty years later, Jefferson wrote in a letter to Henry Lee describing the Declaration of Independence as “an appeal to the tribunal of the world,” and “…intended to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion…” Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 134

I just went to hear Eric Weiner, author of The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World. One aspect he mentioned was that American's Republicans tend to be happier than our Democrats (45 percent vs. 30 percent). Groundbreaking Lawsuit Accuses Big Oil of Conspiracy to Deceive Public About Climate Change Attorney Stephen Susman helped file a groundbreaking lawsuit earlier this year on behalf of 400 Inupiat villagers in the Alaskan town of Kivalina who are being forced to relocate because of flooding caused by global warming. The suit accuses twenty oil, gas and electric companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, ConocoPhillips and Peabody, of being responsible for emitting millions of tons of greenhouse gases causing the Arctic ice to melt. Contrary to popular myth, the men who signed the Declaration of Independence were not great Americans. Instead, they were great Englishmen. In fact, they were as much English citizens as Americans today are American citizens. It's easy to forget that the revolutionaries in 1776 were people who took up arms against their own government. I have participated in several major organizational catastrophes. The most well known of them is the Vietnam War. I was aware on my first visit to Vietnam in 1961 that the situation there—a failing neocolonial regime we had installed as a successor to French rule—was a sure loser in which we should not become further involved. Yet a few years later, I found myself participating as a high-level staffer in a policy process that lied both the public and Congress into a war that, unbeknownst to me at the time, experts inside the government accurately predicted would lead to catastrophe. Advocates of freedom dodged a bullet last week when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the right to keep and bear arms, the subject of the Second Amendment, is an individual, not a collective, right. Opponents of gun ownership have long maintained that the Amendment’s reference to the militia indicates that the right does not apply to private persons. The big news this week: Car manufacturers are having very bad headaches! Sales are down, really down. We see declines, according to Bloomberg News, in GM sales, down last month by 19 percent; Ford down 28 percent; even Toyota sales down 21 percent. If you think those figures were bad, Chrysler sales were down 36 percent and Hummer sales dipped down 59 percent in one month. Comments (1) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 197

Dear Mr. President: I recently outlined my views on the Middle East in a major speech given the day after I proclaimed that I am without doubt the Democratic nominee for President. I delivered that speech to my primary constituents, the good fellows at AIPAC, on K Street where all the lobbies cluster. I’m writing to you not to reiterate some of the concerns and priorities I raised in that speech, points presented to AIPAC because I was forced to if I am to stay in this race, but rather to tell you what should be done if terrorism against America is to end. McCain's Military Service is Not a Qualification for the White House Gen. Wesley Clark is currently going through the ritualistic self-immolation required whenever the media seizes on a comment and tries to make it into a "gotcha!" moment. Once he's done throwing himself to the wolves, the only response the media will accept when someone dares to do something other than genuflect before John McCain, the man they deem untouchable, perhaps we can more soberly evaluate what he said.

Often people express concern about future acts of terrorism in America and about terrorists entering our country at our borders. I feel it is most important Americans come to realize that our borders would only be (if that) a last resort at stopping potential terrorists – if they've gotten that far without our intelligence being aware of their plans then our government has again failed in intelligence gathering. We've got our focus grossly misplaced if we think our biggest security risk is at the border. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 215

Supporters of the U.S. occupation of Iraq sometimes point out that U.S. soldiers are doing good deeds there, such as establishing electricity, water, and other essential services. They also say that the U.S. government liberated the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator. In fact, many of the soldiers themselves honestly feel that they are helping the Iraqi people and look upon Iraqi insurgents who are trying to oust them from Iraq as “terrorists” or “bad guys.” Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 164

The Elite vs. the People Why did Tel Aviv rush to snatch the first excuse to break its own agreement with Hamas? On the surface, Israel got an excellent deal – Hamas stopped fighting even though Israel did not grant Palestine autonomy or agree to recognize Hamas as the legitimate government of Gaza, much less free the Palestinians from their colonial status. This seems like a good time to talk about the race for the vice presidency. Not because of the overwhelming excitement involved in what is essentially a backstage safari. And not because of the dazzling personalities being rigorously vetted. Because nothing else is going on. Right now, the Veepstakes is the only game in town.
