Yes, it is despairing, but it's not past doing something. Thinking small, helping in our own lives (and those directly associated with us) is the beginning. It is truly horrible that we can't help buying something and supporting rape and murder; but we cannot stop buying things, the things of life. Approaching a problem head-on sometimes is defeatest; it's often better to go round the bend. Making it difficult in your specific home area for these businesses causes repercussions up the ladder. For instance, if a company needs grain, make it difficult to get the grain. I think often of rerouting the water so paper mills can't function. I don't know what to say, otherwise, Chrissi. Picking on thing is a good place to start--like someone who can't focus on what's important from 10 different tasks: just pick one and do it. Might I suggest stepup2007 (I think that's its name-I can't open the site here in China). Bill McKibben is pushing it, if that helps. I'm thinking I might do something here as a "look what happens over on the other side of the world if the US doesn't do something" ploy. I look forward to your getting angry--then the shit will hit the fan!!
