I can assure rdsipple that there is no compensation being offered Gitmo lawyers. I have applied to assist in this program, with hopes that at least my travel expenses could be covered. I am a solo practicioner, without any financial backing other than what my practice generates. I was told to provide representation to Gitmo detainees one had to be prepared to pay their own way to both DC and Gitmo ($900 or so on a charter from Miami) and cover all costs. Basically plan on going out of pocket 20-30k if you want to help. I am very proud of the so called "big firm" lawyers who have taken the time to try to help those who cannot help themselves, I just hope m. ripple never is accused of a crime, or maybe should hope that s/he does, then maybe he'd understand
