MWC News, Conscience & Universality

Dr Les Sachs has made some very sensible points about focus, differentiation, identification, colourfulness and readership in relation to MWC News. 
 
I would make the following brief comments: 
 
1. Media with CONSCIENCE is a major strength of MWC News which has consistently reported the horrendous avoidable deaths associated with the current World Order (16 million annually, 10 million of them under-5 year old infants) and with the Bush Wars in Asia (post-invasion excess deaths now totalling 3.4 million in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories). Unlike the lying, racist, holocaust-ignoring Mainstream - and indeed some of the peculiarly \"sophisticated\" Alternative media - MWC News really DOES in daily reportage practice REALLY believe that \"all men are created equal and have an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness\". The Mainstream - and indeed even some Alternative media - will simply NOT report the true dimensions of the carnage in Bush\'s War on Asian Women and Children. 
 
2. Notwithstanding Harper & Co, Canadians have a deserved reputation for \"ordinary decency\" (I get on very well with all my numerous Canadian friends and loved ones - even the conservatives!). However MWC as a medium \"without borders\" is very important also - it should not be identified as \"Canadian\" per se just because it is Vancouver based (indeed its correspondencts are from around the globe). Its Canadian PHYSICAL origins could be subtly indicated every so often (it wouldn\'t hurt; perhaps as Dr Sachs suggests with some more Canadian stuff i.e. \"how to be \"nice\", modest and relatively peace-loving North Americans) - but retention of the UNIVERSALITY of MWC is very important. 
 
3. Dr Sachs\' offer of a letter from Europe is great. Indeed such regular perspectives from other countries (e.g. India, UK, Australia) would be illuminating and attract wider intelligent readership. 
 
4. Colourful images (e.g. Ben Heine\'s brilliant cartoons and illustrations) are a big strength of MWC News. I suspect (perhaps I mean hope) that the MWC News readers are deeply attached to both Beauty as well as Truth - as in John Keats\" \"Ode on a Grecian Urn\" : \"Beauty is truth, truth beauty - that is all Ye know on earth and all ye need to know.\" . 
 
5. Dr John Holdren, president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently made an important AAAS address in which he identified Nuclear weapons, Global Warming and Poverty as the 3 main threats facing humanity. MWC News is very level-headed on important issues - more acutely relevanr Science in these areas would be useful (memo to myself as a humanist scientist and regular contributor to MWC News). 
 
6. Further to (5), more book reviews (there are only so many books you can read) and powerful essays from experts in their areas (Professors Marjorie Cohn and Walter Davis as great MWC News examples). 
 
7. Finally, I would repeat the observation from one of my relatively conservative heroes George Soros (in an investment context) that great advantage can accrue when there is a big gulf between Reality and Public Perception. There is, for example, a huge gulf between the Reality from UNICEF of 0.5 million under-5 year old infants dying every year in the US-occupied Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories (i.e. 1,300 daily, ONE PER MINUTE) and the Public NON-perception of this atrocity due to the lying and racism of Mainstream media. As I wrote recently, MWC News reports what the Mainstream won\'t - it should continue to do so and indeed expand its coverage of the AWFUL TRUTHS not reported by the disgusting and utterly irresponsible Corporate media.
