British imperialism ANTI-democratic
Claims for British credit for India's POST-independence progress are hypothetical - and contradicted by comparisons with China and the huge drop in Indigenous death rate after independence.

China emerged from the nightmare of Japanese occupation in 1945 (35 million war dead) and then emerged from US-backed civil war in 1949 to then face a further 30 years of US hostility plus various Soviet hostility.

Nevertheless, without the "benefit" of British occupation , culture and institutions, China has done vastly better than India in relation to "excess death" (with the exception of the Great Leap Forward disaster) as summarized in the article.

And as for British bringing "democracy" - what the racist British brought was exploitation, mass passive murder and Indigenous subjugation that indeed merits the term "democratic tyranny" or "democratic Nazism".

Centuries of LYING by British academics, journlaists and politicians has created the Myth of a Benign Britain - tell that to the victims of genocide at the hands of Britain from the African slaves and American Indians of 3 centuriess ago to the Occupied Palestinians, Iraqi, Afghans etc TODAY.

An appalling aspect of this is that the British people actually believe the LIES they are fed in an ostensibly open society - which is why they are still spreading death and destruction and ANTI-democracy around the world.
