Comment in question 02-09-2007 07:22 You know, I found Thomas Merton almost prophetic in his observation of his society, but of course he was viewing things at first hand during the Vietnam saga, and all those unspeakable lies that were spread by the US, remember the domino theory? Another great man I have read,(it probably shows something of my philosophy), was that great swami, Vivekananda. He had the knack of reducing what often seems like a complex idea to simple logic. Here is a couple of the many quotes he made:Every human being has the right to ask the reason why, and to have his question answered by himself, if he only takes the trouble; The truth requires no prop to make it stand. The trouble is as I see it, the last thing the politicians want is for people to exercise their freedom as thinking humans. And don\'t they spend a lot of money and time propping up massive lies? I guess this is a little off where this thread started, but in a sense it is relevant. And don\'t we all learn from each other, that is the beauty of discourse. Yes I am in Australia, like America it is wonderful place, with lousy politicians. Mike Guest |
