Comment in question 19-09-2007 03:03 Memes not genes & Respect Mike, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments on the importance of culture and environment (what Professor Dawkins calls "memes" in transmission of behaviour) for well-being rather than polygenic genetic components (genes) that cannot even be addressed in terms of cause and effect except in extreme cases of physiological dysfunction(e.g. cystic fibrosis). A healthy start for social health in Indigenous-non-Indigenous societies is RESPECT for Indigenous people - as recommended in a non-binding fashion by the UN Declaration but unfortunately most appallingly NOT observed by many in such societies and as sadly evidenced on this thread Guest |
