Comment in question 19-04-2009 00:20 The Role of International Law As an Israeli, I believe that the Arab states employ their tremendous influence in the General Assembly of the United Nations to export their propaganda. Repeated Arab military defeats have not changed general strategic objectives of how to \"throw the Jews into the Sea\". Arab states employ \"People\'s War\" techniques which the Vietcong perfected against the Americans. This strategy seeks to prolong the conflict and to rely primarily upon diplomacy and only secondarily upon military conflict. It seeks to arouse divisions within the host imperial power, in this case Israel; and internationalize the conflict. This conflict admittedly is very complex. The great powers percieve their best interests very much connected to this region. Europe longs to re establish it\'s 19th century supremecy which it lost in the 20th century. The US employs a foreign policy, a balance of power in the region, which the British employed when the sun never set upon their empire. Oil represents a key strategic issue and the Jews have very little of it! The UN has transformed from a neutral place where nations could negotiate and carry on with their international diplomacy unto a nation its its own right! The proof to this, the UN functions together with 3 other great power nations states - it\'s called the \'Quartet!\'. Arab propaganda, due to its military weakness, employs \"international law\" as its weapon of choice to attack the Jewish state. But as an Israeli, in my humble opinion, Israel shall decide and determine both its best interests and its international borders. We reject some vague \"international\" dictate. The facts on the ground speak for themselves. The Arab states rejected the partition plan; they invaded the Jewish state. A state that the international community of nations recognized prior unto Ben Gurion\'s declaration of the state of Israel. The Arabs lost a series of wars, that had they won, does anyone seriously believe that they would have respected the 2/3 UN majority that recognized the right of Jews to re-establish their homeland? The hypocritical pius enemies of my people never talk about \"international law\" had the rogue Arab states succeeded in throwing the Jews into the sea in 1948, 1956, and 1967! Consequently, Israel does not respect this pius indignations and talk talk talk about \"international law\". Guest |
