Actually, the only insanity here is to take Al Gore's fairly clumsy analogy (how much has the weight of the earth actually changed recently?), and use it as the basis for a sloppy argument. 
Try to understand, if you can pull the blinkers off for a minute, that wealth creation IS NOT directly proportional to the rate of destruction of the environment.
