Comment in question 24-03-2008 21:34 How to beat Mainstream media I always appreciate your comments, Mike. This comment of yours was remarkably deja vu because today I spent several hours on the last session of a 2 month course entitled \"Risk Management, Science and Denial\" - for details of the material covered (Rational Risk Management and Nuclear, Greenhouse and Poverty and Threats) see Risk Management, Science & Denial. This extended last session was spent discussing with the class \"What decent citizens can do\" to inform society about major risks and what society should do about them. In the end it involved discussion of how to circumvent lying Mainstream media and politicians in the Western Murdochracies. I made the point (re one suggestion of \"say it in pictures\") that in about 40 years of university lecturing I had taught perhaps 5,000 students, about the same number as the people who have seen my first huge polemical painting on MWC News (\"Qana\", inspired by Picasso\'s 1937 \"Guernica\" and about the Israeli destruction of the Lebanese town of Qana: \"Qana\" painting). One of my students ( a senior professional man) had been on the board of a local high school and indicated that the total number of students over a quarter century had been about the same number - 5,000 - and that every bit helps to inform others and make the world a better and safer place. Inspired by this encouraging comment from my students and YOUR comment, Mike, I will compose an article for MWC News that summarizes the suggestions of my self and my students on \"What decent citizens can do\" to make a Hole in the Wall of Silence of the Mainstream Media media. In advance, the most powerful idea was for the National Academies and Professional Societies - faced with Western complicity in the Palestinian, Iraqi and Afghan Genocides in the Middle East and a Climate Emergency threatening the whole biosphere - should become much more actively engaged in Society by setting up expert sub-committees and thence INFORMING the nation and the world via an authoritative website - and as you say \"in due course of time the effects can hopefully move from the linear to exponential\". We must ALL inform everyone we can about the acute man-made dangers facing our fellow man. Guest |
