Ego.

I agree with what you have written . I long ago realized that to be part of a religion, is to surrender those inner intuitions, insights call them what you like. People blindly accept utter rubbish as fact, often they are born to it, religion, politics, economics and so on. I have often said that religious and political experts, know nothing, look at the swaggering pastor who spouts from a book of compilations , does he know its source, history etc? People live in fear, these wizards and sorcerers of deception and lies, strengthen this fear and use it to manipulate mankind, turning them into mindless frightened sheep. 
There is a deep part of the human consciousness that is profoundly beautiful, but it is clothed in ego. 
I know in a Sufi tradition ego is understood to be Shatan (Satan). Some mystic Christians humorously refer to EGO as Easing God Out. Maybe the myth of the Garden of Eden , symbolically represents Adams first steps into the World of the Ego, he and Eve started to see themselves as bodies not souls. 
Thus the divine universal connection was broken, not just with mankind, but with the universe. 
Gnosis, is I believe, knowing in a sense that comes from the liberated mind, from a true freedom of the intellect, the little boy who saw that the king was naked, was not a great scholar, but he saw the truth with an uncluttered mind. 
Can mankind change, I do not know, will mankind stop persecuting the Gnostic, in reality their own brothers and sisters ?
