Supreme justice?
The trouble is the USA never was a spotless virgin when it comes to human rights.
There was slavery in the South ending 1865.
Last public execution 1936.
Desegregation of the US armed forces 1948.
The civil rights struggle 1955 -- 1968.
The US seemed to be dragging its heels regarding civil rights.
The use of capital punishment in the USA, standing proudly on its own among the rest of the Americas, and Europe.
The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate[2] and total documented prison population in the world(ex wikipedia).
So seeing torture, coming into use by the various agencies of the US, is no surprise to any one outside of the US looking in.
I have seen several articles saying that approximately 60% of US citizens regard the use of torture OK against suspected terrorists, (thats pretty medieval), trouble is that monster can come home.
Yes indeed if the US could become the true beacon of liberty, it espouses to, that would be wonderful, the whole world could benefit. The US has clout, but that can be of benefit, or the opposite to humanity depending on what goes on inside the US.
