I happened to be in the room when KSM made that statement. I he did not state that he didn't have any paper, he stated that he didn't have any A4 paper. I also know that he does in fact have legal pads out the wazoo. Heck he walked into court carrying one.  
 
In the future you may not want to breathlessly opine on matters which were breathlessly reported by a press corps that is by and large in the tank for KSM. I've met them and yes they are.
