missing facts
This article is in severe lack of facts. I should know since I’m the one that grew up during the wars and liberations and spent my life reading the history.
The land of Ossetia and Abkhazia is the rightful, historical part of Georgia. During the soviet reign a type of nomad people living in Russia migrated down and settled into the lands of Ossetia and Abkhazia. They lived side by side with the original, Georgian, residents. As more and more of them started to move in they started outnumbering the Georgians in those specific regions. Because of the soviet reign there was nothing done about them and they felt protected by Russia. But when the Soviet Union fell apart the first, and currently last, real president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia started cleaning up the mess left behind from the war. He gave control back to the Georgians of their country and land. So after all this of coarse the Ossetian’s and Abkhazians (referred to as such because they make up the majority of the population) have a distinct culture and language since they are immigrants come from other lands and have adapted some of the Georgian culture throughout their stay.
So would it be fair it the Russian immigrants, lets say in New York, outnumbered all the other residents and thus decided that they wanted to become an independent state. No. though this is a rather poor example seeing as America is an immigrant country.
As for the presidency, Saakashvili is hated by the Georgians and is merely an American puppet doing what’s best for its puppet master rather then the people, much like the previous president, Eduard Shevardnadze, who was the Russian puppet.
