Comment in question 19-11-2008 10:07 It's Vitally Important We failed to stop the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but we did not fail to create universal acknowledgement of the shame, the ugliness, the evil and the failure of it all. WE MUST NOT FAIL to have the people responsible for it all hauled before the courts and delivered appropriate justice with the full force of the laws that have been established for this purpose. To fail to do this would be to allow the structure of international law and order to be destroyed, perhaps forever. For all the debt owed by the current generations to those of the future we ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT add this to the total. It is a matter of critical importance, no less than that of the need to address climate change, perhaps even more important. I for one will be doing my piece in this task and I implore others to maintain resolve. It is a vitally important matter, far more so than many of us even imagine. Just consider for a moment a world in whose history there is such a blot, such heinous crimes, such complete disregard for law and morality on an international scale, all left unpunished. It just doesn't bear thinking about. The next imbecile could be far worse even than bush if shored up with the assurance that a precedent has been set. Indeed, the new man is unproven and because he is intelligent, if he has similar inclination (as is already evident) he could insidious and far more dangerous. He has our goodwill and our open minds, but he must be left in no mistake about our resolve in relation to the bush disaster. Our action must be vigorous and our resolve must be steadfast.
