Comment in question 02-12-2008 03:29 No I'm Not Surprised On the eve of the US election I circulated an email among friends and acquaintances that went as follows: In the short term... Unprecedented, historic landslide victory for Obama In the long term... Eight more years of - not so brazen, not so in-your-face, fast track or confrontationist - war, corporate corruption, widening wealth inequity, planetary degradation and denial of reality until, another disillusioned, outraged electorate votes for \"change\", a little more convinced that their democracy is a sham. But I will be nevertheless encouraged by the mere fact that people have, at last, too late and too little, but at last expressed some real disapproval of Bush and all that he has stood for, albeit, as in Australia, where the deciding factor was rising interest rates, not because of the shameful destruction of a country on a pack of brazen lies or the hypocrisy of torture and erosion of rights in the name of freedom and democracy but rather because of an economic crisis. Australia, by the way, is doing all the same - in miniature. So no, I\'m not surprised. Like the rest of us (you, other writers in spaces like this and their readers) I keep waiting for that critical mass and wondering why it never comes, wondering what I can do to change things and always thiking how ugly this system is that retards human development. We ALL lose, you know, even that privileged 1% who own this doomed planet, they too, in their way are pedalling hard towards oblivion. Only they never ask why. Are there enough of us yet whose thinking is enough in alignment to confer, consolidate and unify our thinking, formulate real solutions and bring about that REAL CHANGE?? As I write this response, a message into the darkness to the author of this article and the others who are reading it, I am reminded of Ralph Nader making his remarks to that FOX News egomaniac bully... \"I\'m looking into a dark camera...\" We need some sort of global meeting place. I know how to make that global meeting place. Is anyone interested? Registered |
