Just Where is Uri Avnery?

Uri Avnery is often full of insights and new perspectives. Yet increasingly I wonder, just where IS Uri Avnery. 
 
Often sounding like an honest broker who sees through the evils being perpetrated by his government(s) and wanting to change the situation; yet occasionally subscribing to the punch and judy show illusion of American \"democracy\" as if naiive in a way we would not expect of him. It\'s somehow disturbing. 
 
All of the savvy watchers and commenters on \"our\" side of the internet understand that Obama is no \"young bull\" bringing a \"deluge of new ideas in every direction\" or any \"tsunami of practical initiatives\". We know that he is George W Bush in the velvet glove; a gloss of charm over the same old ugly monster with all of its old sinister intent. We know he serves the capitalist greed and power machine at the cost of the vast majority of Americans and the rest of the world. We are just doing our best to help the poor silly buggers who still \"hope for change\" to grow up and realise that this is not disneyland. Uri Avenery\'s remarks, subscribing to the lie, are ungelpful. 
 
But these remarks about Israeli politics are even worse. Under the froth and bubble of the Israeli punch-and-judy-show-democracy the Zionist machine has been working insidiously and relentlessly without the least waver in direction for 60 years - utterly unaffected by surface politics. The two arms of the the Zionist machine are the IDF and the organised settlers. These are institutions playing complementary roles towards what is now an obvious objective - a single, ethnically cleansed, Jews only Israeli state occupying the whole of what was once Palestine and preparing itself for the next phase of Zionist expansionism.  
 
The processes and activities of these two long-established institutions operate beyond scrutiny, without account to the general public and unaffected by government in any real way. 
 
So why does Uri Avnery obsesse with inviting us into the soap opera dramas of this silly and often sinister black theatre?
