Comment in question 02-06-2009 11:12 Are they violent? My husband who's a federal prisoner writes: Here is another item to keep an eye on. The BOP has begun to re designate all prisoners with gun charges and gun enhancements as "violent". This may be a preemptive move on the part of the Prison-Industrial Complex in regards to potential prison reform that will reduce sentences for non-violent offenders. 85% of all Federal prisoners are non-violent, at least by previous standards. By re-classifying people, they can keep them locked up as well as make their War on Crime look more effective. Some examples of gun crimes: One fellow was busted 20 years ago for pot. He was later arrested for being a felon in possession of a gun. He had no legal problems since he had finished with his earlier case and was never accused of using the gun in a criminal manner. Another fellow was busted in a marijuana sting operation. He was in possession of a gun at the time. He was charged with the gun. Others have been arrested on drug charges and guns were in the home. Not used, simply in the home. Guest |
