Being Jewish is not a race because Jews do not share one common ancestry or biological distinction. People of many different races have become Jewish people overhttp://judaism.about.com/od/abcsofjudaism/a/beingjewish.htm the years.  
 
This idea of race vs relgion is helpful to me. But, I doubt Israel wants to admit to being in the same historical family as the Arab Palestinian.  
 
That point aside, I agree in making comparisions to any atrocity and Katrina.
