A dream turning into a nightmare

Imagine a charismatic and power-hungry politician supported by a clique of financiers and industrialist, being elected President of the world’s greatest democracy, on a pseudo populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness, a universal health plan for every citizen and, more importantly, promising millions of jobs thanks to billions of dollars going to the world’s richest men on Wall Street and the city of London.

Tariq Mehanna: FBI's Latest Muslim Target
Op_ed
By Stephen Lendman

Post-9/11, Muslims have been victimized, vilified, and persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, prominence, activism, and charity. They've been targeted, hunted down, rounded up, held in detention, kept in isolation, denied bail, restricted in their right to counsel, tried on secret evidence, convicted on bogus charges, given long sentences, then incarcerated for extra harsh treatment as political prisoners in segregated Communication Management Units (CMUs) in violation of US Prison Bureau regulations and the Supreme Court's February 2005 Johnson v. California decision.

The Nobel Audacity Prize Goes to Cheney
Op_ed
By MWC News

If there were a Nobel Audacity Prize, former Vice-President Dick Cheney would deserve to win it, hands-down. This guy is unbelievable. He’s taking President Obama to task for “dithering” by not immediately sending 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan.

The Phony Radicalism of Michael Moore
Op_ed
By Sheldon Richman

With phony radicals like Michael Moore around, the ruling elite has nothing to worry about.

The filmmaker likes to pose as a radical critic of the status quo, but he isn’t. All the evidence you need is in his latest documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story. Sure, he rails against home foreclosures, bank bailouts, low wages, other real and imagined problems, but his solution would not disturb the sleep of any big banker, corporate bigwig, or political big shot.

From Columbine to Wall Street

The Death of Personal Responsibility

Susan Klebold, mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine Shooters, has released an essay that is now widely publicized. It was originally published in O Magazine. In her article, Susan says, "For the rest of my life, I will be haunted by the horror and anguish Dylan caused. I cannot look at a child in a grocery store or on the street without thinking about how my son's schoolmates spent the last moments of their lives. Dylan changed everything I believed about myself, about God, about family and about love."
