"Beam Me Up, Scottie!"
Just in case you hadn't noticed, we're in a Bushworld too absurd for words. But that hasn't stopped this administration from yakking its collective head off. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1240

America's One and One-half Party System
I remember vividly, and painfully, a discussion I had on Columbus Day 2002, one day after the Senate had given Bush, by a vote of 77-23, the power to conduct war as he pretty damn well pleased, thus assuring the Iraq invasion, and the inhumanity that such war would bring. The House had voted a few hours earlier, also giving the White House its vote of confidence, 296-133. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1224

Smothering the King Legacy with Kind Words
Hours after Coretta Scott King died, President Bush led off the State of the Union address by praising her as "a beloved, graceful, courageous woman who called America to its founding ideals and carried on a noble dream." The Challenges of Maximalist Democracy Dr. Liaquat Ali Khan
In its crusade to democratize the Muslim world, the Bush administration faces the challenges of maximalist democracy---an all-inclusive conception of democracy that generates free and full electoral competition among parties with diverse political platforms. Maximalist democracy loathes diminishing universal suffrage, banning political parties, or restricting political platforms. In the Muslim world, maximalist democracy requires that both Islamic and secular parties be allowed to organize and compete in general elections, and form government upon winning. Don’t Change The Channel! We Will Be Back After These Messages
Saddam Hussein may soon be executed and at the end of his life, he is the main character in a drama that no fiction writer would concoct. The writer would be deemed mad, out of touch with reality. Saddam finds himself in hyperactive reality however. Fitting perhaps, for a man that has lived a surreal life. Be first to comment this article | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1274

Congressional Ethics After Abramoff
The Abramoff scandal has spurred one of the episodic "reform" moments on Capitol Hill. Republicans and Democrats are competing to offer ethics reform packages that ignore entirely their past entanglement in the very activities they now seek to regulate or eliminate.
