It's has been like a patient on his deathbed; you've been expecting his final moment any day but when the time comes you are not completely sure, you are trying to poke him a few times to see if there is any movement or reaction.

Karl Rove, has been on his political deathbed for some time now, an indictment was inevitable. It was just matter of time for Fitzgerald to pull the plug and put him out of his misery. According to Jason Leopold it happened last Friday.
