Dear Friends,
I have just received my September/October issue of the AARP Magazine and was intrigued with the cover story: What Makes Condi Run – How She Learned to Be Fearless By Ann Reilly Dowd. Rarely have I read a more cloying piece of superficial PR crapola. If you want to read how I really felt about the article, check out my letter to the AARP Magazine below. Unfortunately I have to just about cut the letter in half to make it fit the format of The Mail – Letters to the Editor section of the AARP Magazine. I highly doubt if they will publish it, as the mere presence of such a blatantly positive article about our Dark LittlePrincess of US Imperialism, is an obvious suck-up to Bush and Co. Anyway, here is my first draft LITTLE TO DO ABOUT CONDE I was really upset after reading your quite biased puff piece on Conde Rice. The Bush administration has set up a number of these show-persons of minority race/gender status in order to present the illusion of inclusively/diversity and to falsely frame honest criticism of their policies as motivated by racism and sexism. Some might find it encouraging, that this administration has placed such people in positions of power and influence. A closer examination of Ms. Rice’s record and background reveal her to be no champion of democracy, feminism and racial equity, but to be in reality a sinister architect for Bush’s extremist policies of American imperialism. It is not amusing to have such a fawning article about the present Secretary of State that gives the AARP readers little insight into the dark side of her fearless nature. Her blatant lies were largely instrumental in scaring the pants of the Congress and the American people in the misguided build up to the war in Iraq. Prior to 9/11 her inability as the National Security Advisor to the President to see the overwhelming evidence of the impending terrorist threat is either colossal incompetence at best, or at worst, a bloodless geopolitical calculation at the expense of over 3,000 innocent American lives. Her record as the Provost point person in Stamford’s scuttling of the University’s affirmative action programs for blacks and women is equally uninspiring. Your laudatory piece willingly ignores the fact that Ms. Rice is a heartless, calculating, inflexible cold warrior who’s life of service has been a credit to neither her sex or her race. To blithely ignore these facts deeply flaws your pretty little bio-op of the Secretary of State. If your editors would like to continue in this vein, I would suggest that Ann Reilly Dowd research some equally sycophantic articles on Emelda Markos, Madame Diem, Elena Chauchescu and Ilse Koch. To my mind, if the AARP Magazine can’t say something balanced and truthful about really what makes Condi run, it would be better to say nothing at all. Robert Boldt Jefferson City, MO
