 The Challenge of Authentic Leadership
In order to address the overwhelming global problems that are affecting all of us, we need to get to a point where we all feel compelled to assume a much bigger, more all-embracing emotional, philosophical, moral, and ultimately spiritual relationship to being a human being and living in this world. And of course, if change is going to happen on a scale that can truly make a difference, the individuals who are in positions of leadership are going to have to become nothing less than heroes—moral, ethical, and spiritual heroes—who are willing to take big risks for all of our sake. If our leaders were to become real leaders in this way, to evolve at the level of consciousness and conscience, they would truly be able to come together in new ways. This is the challenge of authentic leadership and, from a certain point of view, nothing is more important. No matter how many individuals! awaken, unless those who are really in positions of power—which means politicians and corporate leaders—evolve and awaken in dramatic ways, nothing is really going to change. It’s statements like this that give credence to the Europeans who say that all Americans are little children. Humans have always been led by fallible, corruptible, immoral, mortals – people just like us - not heroes. No one realized this more than the founders of our country. Moral, ethical and spiritual leadership is as inimical to US corporate and political leadership as are milking bulls on a dairy farm. Never in our history has government or industry had an authentic, humanitarian response to a needful crisis that they were not driven to by some counter intimidating force – never the force of right & truth without bodies or guns to back it up. Time to brush up on your Howard Zinn, ladies and gentlemen.
If it has never been done in the past, why on earth do you think it has a chance to happen now when virtually everybody in government and the press who is not completely cool-aide-drunk, is so afraid of their own shadows they can’t cross Pennsylvania Avenue without a hall pass? Don’t you realize that nearly half the people in this country would read this statement and agree wholeheartedly with it and say, “thank the Lord! George W. Bush is just such a man.”?{mosgoogle right} Don’t let me piss on your paradigm, but this country is no longer under your control or the control of anyone else who is not on the take. Some time ago, what’s left of this great land was divided up between the Washington fat cats and their corporate controllers and mortgaged to the Chinese. Guess who will be left holding the paperwork when the greedheads split for their undisclosed locations? If you think the Congressional Democrats aren’t a part of this big divvy up, just wait and see how vigorously the John Roberts nomination is opposed, how eager they are to revisit the Plame affair or the Downing Street memo. And wait and see just how fast the loyal opposition lines up to fill the whitewash buckets for Bu! sh’s investigation of the manslaughter of the 10,000 residents of the city of New Orleans. You caught me on a bad day. For now, I see only two alternatives: 1) A violent Jeffersonian Revolution in which we take them all out and put them to the sword. or… 2) Tend our own gardens until they come for us. Being a non-Jeffersonian and being of the non-violent sort, I choose 2). Recommend this article...
