MWC News reports what Mainstream Media Ignores  | | Ben Heine / MWC NEWS |
MWC NEWS will shortly celebrate its Second Birthday (May 15, 2007). Editor Shahram Vahdany has asked me to comment on this occasion. I am responding immediately to this request on the basis that some of the most important HUMAN truths are elicited immediately but can be blunted and obfuscated by prolonged mulling.
Now there are many things about MWC News that can be praised – the layout, the humanitarian news reportage, brilliant cartoons by Ben Heine, and excellent contributors such as Professor Marjorie Cohn, Bob Boldt, Tom Engelhardt, Professor Walter Davis, Gajendra Singh, Ben Tanosborn … However the most important thing for me is that MWC News BEARS WITNESS – it provides accurate, forthright, humanitarian reportage about the human condition on Spaceship Earth with the First World at the helm. In this respect, in relation to BEARING WITNESS, MWC News and related Alternative Media differ markedly from racist, lying, holocaust-ignoring Corporate Mainstream Media which can be seen to generally have a DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE to the bottom-line parameter describing the human condition, namely avoidable death (excess death, excess mortality, avoidable mortality, deaths that did not have to happen) that currently totals 16 million annually for the world (including about 10 million annual avoidable under-5 year old infant deaths). I am a humanist scientist and have spent decades of professional life following the injunction of the extremely important 19th century scientist Lord Kelvin to "say it with numbers". Indeed George Orwell also realized the importance of this in his novel "1984" in which he has Big Brother declare that "2 plus 2 does not equal 4" – a nightmare scenario that has been realized today by racist, lying Mainstream Media who generally refuse to report expertly-determined estimates of avoidable mortality in US- or US surrogate-occupied Third World countries such as Occupied Iraq and Occupied Afghanistan. The post-invasion excess deaths in the Occupied Palestinian, Iraqi and Afghan Territories now total 0.3, 1.0 and 2.4 million, respectively (mostly Women and Children) and post-invasion under-5 infant deaths total 0.2 , 0.5 and 1.9 million, respectively (90% having been avoidable) – this carnage being largely due to Occupier violation of the Geneva Convention that unequivocally demands that Occupiers do everything in the power to keep their Conquered Subjects ALIVE (see MWC News). Applying Lord Kelvin's advice, we can estimate the remarkable extent to which MWC News has BORNE WITNESS to the horrendous current human condition by simply doing a Google Search for the following PHRASES in the absence or the presence [in square brackets] of the word MWC:  | | Ben Heine / MWC NEWS |

Indeed if one gets more specific and searches for "excess deaths" plus the word "Afghan" one gets 29,800 URLs [and 904 with the additional word "mwc"] – and the "scores" replacing "Afghan" with "Iraqi" are 59,400 URLs [and 1,310 with the word "mwc" added]. Unfortunately, WORDS have evidently failed - check with UNICEF, and you will rapidly discover that ONE under-5 year old infant still dies EVERY MINUTE in the US Alliance-occupied Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories – this being largely due to gross, war criminal Occupier violation of the Geneva Convention. However there are other ways of "getting through" to others about the human condition. MWC News has used IMAGERY very powerfully, most notably with the brilliant and biting cartoons of Ben Heine. MWC News has also enabled me to SAY IT IN PICTURES, most notably by presenting images of huge paintings I have created in the cause of Peace, Amity and Respect for Woman and for Mother and Child: Sydney Madonna, Manhattan Madonna , Melbourne Madonna, Qana , Truelove . and Alhambra Pollock . Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity – we are obliged to inform others about gross abuse of our fellow man.
