Who Are the Terrorists
By Rosemarie Jackowski

"You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong no matter who does it or who says it."

 ~Malcolm X

Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie O'Donnell
The big question that has been the sleeping elephant in the national living room has finally been voiced.  Rosie O'Donnell was not the first to ask the question, but she is the one who brought it to main stream television now. The question caused a meltdown at Fox news and resulted in thousands of comments at the ABC News blog. Justifiably so. This might be the most important question facing the United States today.

The question is: since 655,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed, who are the terrorists. Rosie made a little mistake. Her question is a bit misleading because the correct number of dead Iraqis is estimated to be more that two million.  Rosie's 655,000 number does not include any of those who were killed prior to the Shock and Awe bombing campaign which started on March 20, 2003. The United States has been bombing Iraq since 1991. In addition to those killed in the bombings, 500,000 Iraqi children died as a result of the U.S. sanctions.

When Rosie asked, "Who are the terrorists?", it resulted in an onslaught of ad hominem attacks against her. There was apparent sexism in much of the criticism. Never have two men who debated an issue been the objects of such viscous attacks. The sexist, degrading, and mean spirited nature of the attacks on Rosie could lead an observer to believe that the dumbing down of the population is even worse than anyone ever imagined.  Those who are not sufficiently informed to make a credible argument in a debate often resort to such mean spirited tactics.

The one thing that was missing from the great surge of public discourse on the airways and in the blogoshere was an intelligent discussion of the issue. The issue is, who are the terrorists. That is the question that CNN, MSNBC, CBS, FOX, and most of the print media have refused to explore.  The challenge is now out there.  Those who have had such harsh criticism of Rosie should welcome a debate.   Qualified debaters on the other side of the issue could include, but not be limited to,  Mickey Z, William Blum, Harry Bellafonte, Howard Zinn, and  Ramsey Clark.  I would bet my best protest poster that this is one debate that Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity will  avoid by any means necessary.

There may be some questions that are more important:  What is the meaning of life? What is the origin of the universe? Does Ultimate Causality exist? How does the brain function? What is the cure for cancer?  To the families of the slaughtered Iraqis, Rosie's question might be more relevant,  "Who are the terrorists?"  It is a question that has been suppressed in the United States.  It is a question that has been a topic of conversation around the world, except in the United States.

Thanks to Rosie, the sleeping elephant in the living room has been awakened. The big question is now out there. Who are the terrorists? No need for a team of philosophers or military men.  No need for a Congressional Investigation.  It is not complicated.  It is not like trying to explain String Theory, Black Holes, and Anti-gravity.   It is very clear and simple.  Just do a body count. The answer is obvious.

Rosemarie Jackowski is an advocacy journalist living in the USA.  She was arrested, tried, and convicted for her participation in a peaceful protest of the war.  The conviction was appealed and overturned in the State Supreme Court.  The government then announced plans to retry the case. Finally,  after years of legal proceedings, all charges were dropped.  She can be reached at: dissent@sover.net

WRONG again
I would recommend your ridiculous article to a baboon.....maybe not even that. As usual, armchair politician....you have the facts wrong and are conveniently not even taking into account the hundreds of thousands who were killed under Saddam Hussein. :roll

Huge Iraq deaths & US State terrorism
Excellent article by Rosemarie Jackowski. A long and widely published Australian scientist, after many years of careful research I am shortly publishing a huge book called "Body Count. Global Avoidable Mortality since 1950". Avoidable mortality or excess mortality is excess deaths or deaths that did not have to happen and can be readily assessed from UN Population Division, UNICEF and medical literature data.

The Iraqi post-invasion excess deaths and under-5 infant deaths total 1.0 million and 0.5 million, respectively (Occupied Iraq 2003-May 2007); 1.7 million and 1.2 million, respectively (under Sanctions 1990-2003); and 2.7 million and 1.7 million, respectively (1990 - May 2007). In comparison, the number of Western civilians killed by Muslim-origin non-state terrorists over the last FORTY (40) YEARS totals about 7,000 (this number including Israelis and making the huge assumption of no US or US surrogate involvement in the 9/11 atrocity).

Non-state Terrorism is EVIL and so is State Terrorism. The death toll from US State Terrorism (USST) in Iraq now stands at 2.7 million and there are 4 million refugees who have fled the carnage - terrorism indeed.

But US State Terrorism (USST) is not simply confined to Iraq - it has also been operating in Occupied Afghanistan and in Palestine via Israeli State Terrorism (IST) or more realistically US-Israeli State Terrorism (USIST). The post-invasion excess deaths in the Occupied Palestinian, Iraqi and Afghan Territories total 0.3 million, 1.0 million and 2.4 million, respectively; the post-invasion under-5 infant deaths total 0.2 million, 0.5 million and 1.9 million, respectively (90% avoidable and due to US, US Alliance and Jewish Israeli war crimes); and the number of refugees total 7 million (4.3 million registered with the UN), 4 million and 3.7 million, respectively. Terrorism indeed (for detailed discussion and documentation see recent articles by me in the highly ethical MWC News).

Saddam Hussein was a really bad guy, and he killed lots of his fellow countrymen. So the solution was to cook up a lie(remember WMDs)to justify an invasion. Bomb the infrastructure, wrecking the place, then to disband the Iraq armed forces that had been defeated, bomb and kill, and reside over the death of a sovereign nation, as it tears itself to pieces. How many hundreds of thousands died as a result of the United States illegal invasion invasion?

Thanks for the comments. IF Saddam was killing the Iraqis, that would have been the best reason that I can think of as to why we should NOT have then killed more of them.

Fear.
The great fear that people of the US have is the truth.
Our government would not lie to us! (Oh yes they would! Governments in general do a lot of lying, the US government is no different).
Our nation is a nation, that is held in awe and wonder, the envy of the world; who says, the US government?
The US spreads freedom and democracy around the World. The thing it spreads is death for the sake of its own self interest.
Elizabeth and Cory, be brave do your research with open eyes!
