ISRAELI APARTHEID AT A CROSSROAD | Print |  E-mail

There has been lots of talk recently throughout the world about the Israeli Occupation of Palestine. A week of worldwide demonstrations against the Occupation just ended.... where do we go now?
The situation remains the same, getting worse every day. On top of the misery caused by the Israeli presence in the Palestinian Territories, we are now witnessing infighting between the two rival forces in the Palestinian Authority itself. Surely that can lead only to the strengthening of Israel's grip over Palestine. Israel can and will be the only victor as a result. The internal strife among Palestinians must end NOW.... all efforts must go towards ending the Occupation NOW! Israeli Apartheid is now at a crossroad.... it's direction is anyone's guess at the moment.

The following excerpt and links are definitely worth reading.

This month marks the fortieth anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Four decades of control established and maintained by force of arms--in defiance of international law, countless UN Security Council resolutions and, most recently, the 2004 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice in The Hague--have enabled Israel to impose its will on the occupied territories and, in effect, to remake them in its own image.

So starts THIS linked article by Saree Makdisi in the current on-line edition of The Nation. It's definitely worth the 'click and read'....

The second part of the discussion is by Meron Benvenisti, a well know Israeli author. It can be read HERE.

In the same issue there is an Editorial called Endless Occupation?
That too is worth reading. It leaves the reader with a good amount of 'food for thought'.

THIS article from the Washington Post is also a good read.... just what the apartheid wall does to the lives on both sides of it.
