Draft Dodge

Since 2004, there have been over 40 articles and blogs about the draft, forced military service for our country (US) whether you like war or not. TalkLeft ( D:\essays etc\political\the draft\TalkLeft The Politics Of Crime.htm) lists only 30. Since the last mention in the media of 12 August 2007, there has been only one anti-establishment rag to publish a comment or story, Jeremy R. Hammond, on 22 August 2007, at Dissident Voice, wrote "The Path Towards War With Iran" ( D:\essays etc\political\the draft\Dissident Voice The Path Towards War With Iran.htm).

Where is the outrage? Where is the social activism needed to hinder this further enslavement of the US population--granted, only the youth. . .up to age 42--to the whims of our government?

Part of the problem is that this is only pending, the draft is only being considered, albeit over and over again for nearly four years (out in the public); apparently, it's been on the Bush-Cheney secret table far longer. Part of the problem is that it is not immediately destructive; that is, in Iraq and Palestine and Afghanistan and wherever else the US has got its sticky fingers there are people dying now. This minute. Blood and guts and cancers and rapes. Every day. Day in and day out.

Part of the problem is that it's easier to foment invective or dissent if the problem is not in your backyard, lurking like the monster from the black lagoon because there, in your backyard, it's your fault.

Part of the problem is the crisis-orientation of dissidents, noted before on some blog: "i used to say. . .i could disable the entire anarchist and lefty population as they all lived near each other and reacted predictably. make a racial barb, they flock your way. . .support the war, they flock your way. . .endorse an unethical person, they flock your way. . . . if we could just let up for a minute, and not give them targets. . . ." [sic] That is, the dissidents are knee-jerkers, children running after candy thrown in the air at the carnival--they will run where they are led.

Part of it, too, is the media, as a Common Dreams commenter, Siouxrose, notes: the media is the reason we're where we are. The media leads us, the nation, whither it will. It is now having us focus on conditions outside the country, as if to say, "Lookee here! Things is bad here. You lookee here. No lookee home." And then it's too late.

Not just the mainstream media, for which such disarming tactics as diverting attention away from the real problem is to be expected; for the dissident media, the Internet alternative news sites as well. Where is the focus? Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel, China, Pakistan--anywhere but home, anywhere but in our own backyard. Wag the dog. Magicians are good at this. It's a constant shell game. And you lose.

In an otherwise mainstream, follow my lead and fight for America story, Thomas Sowell acknowledges, if backhandedly, that the draft is racist and classist (1 August 2007, out of The Hoover Institute), but that's okay, it's the right thing to do. (Thomas Sowell is black and pressing the point that certain kinds of racism are acceptable?) Ron Paul doesn't mince words: he calls the draft enslavement (28 November 2006, a political Internet notice). Mr. Paul is a "Republican member of Congress from Texas."

Yes. It is true that, in the past, many of our Congressmen and one or two of our Presidents have served in the military but. . . none of them were drafted. Without the truth of the matter (none were drafted), this argument to kill or be killed is put forth as the patriotic thing to do: drafting young Americans to fight and die for their leaders. Our leaders are not just Republicans now. Murtha, Rangel and Conyers, good money-bought Democrats, are calling for the draft. Pelosi's not talking about it at all; Clinton's being catty about it. Neither is interested in stopping war.

Now, in the present day, women will be included in the draft. And why not? Better to have the whores present under an assumed name (label) than absent or "out in the enemy population" where disease will, of course, be rampant. General Hooker forbid prostitutes in his army, so they tagged along calling themselves Hooker's women. Do I denigrate women in uniform, women in general? Not in the least. Women in the Armed Forces are abused, coerced into sex and out-and-out raped, all in the name of harmony and troop morale. I'm just being upfront about it: a woman drafted may have a spanking new uniform and a kind of a job and a rank (private? sergeant? general?) but she'll be someone's whore. Because, well, dontcha know. . .women can't fight. They, like the men though, can be reprogrammed, propagandized into believing anything, so maybe they will fight. Maybe they'll be used as first line offense, like the Huguenots were used by Richelieu to fight his religious wars. This idea's not dead as the military is willing to take--gag!--foreigners. Does that include illegal aliens, I wonder? (What a solution to that problem, eh?)

Wake up, America, you're being conned. You're being led right into slavery, albeit indentured. Oh, hell. Why should I complain? Some of us immigrants came over as indentured slaves to the British companies looking for a profit. That's right folks, America was settled by white indentured slaves-- no! Incorrect. America was stolen from its people by white indentured slaves and their hideous progeny. So, submitting to the draft is only returning to our roots. And that can't be bad.

Play that funky music, white boy. I'll stick to my French Huguenot family values, thank you.

I'm 60. My son's 37, so he can be drafted. My grandson's 11, he'll be sent up in seven years. My baby brother, though, he's got five kids. . .maybe I have the tense wrong. . .

If you want to stop the war, keep screaming and yelling about Iraq; if you want to stop war, get the anti-draft steamroller rolling! Put the issue in people's faces--and keep it there. It's all about family values.
