Mathew Tait hopes to be diving over for tries rather than South Africa's Bryan Habana
Rory Underwood, England's record try scorer, says England centre Mathew Tait is the man to stop South African winger Bryan Habana from running riot against England in the World Cup final.

Brian Ashton, England coach, has yet to decide who will play on the wing instead of Josh Lewsey, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the semi-final victory over France.

Tait shifted across from centre to cover for Lewsey during the 14-9 win, with Dan Hipkiss coming off the bench to fill in for Tait in midfield.

Underwood insisted Ashton should keep Tait on the wing as he has the pace to match the speedy South Africa wing Habana in Saturday's final in Paris.

"He'll probably do that rather than call in Mark Cueto who's not played for three or four games," former England wing Underwood told BBC radio.

"Danny's (Hipkiss) got half a game under his belt and is fresh."

"If there is one person who can match Habana for pace, it's Mathew Tait."

Habana is the top try scorer so far in the World Cup, with his double in the 37-13 semi-final win over Argentina taking his tally to eight.

He is level with Jonah Lomu as the top try scorer in one tournament after the New Zealand great scored eight tries at the 1999 World Cup where his team reached the semi-finals.

"If there is one person who can match Habana for pace, it's Mathew Tait," said Underwood, who scored 49 England tries.

"He's not got the physique, sidestep or experience that Habana has, but there's no doubt he has got pace."
