I suppose its seems strange to think or believe that the Stolen Generation of Aboriginal Australia will be finally getting an Apology from our Prime Minister, but I have to say this meets me with a little apprehension it seems that nothing comes without strings attached these days. In the political world what will this apology mean to Aboriignal people and to the wider community. And what about the future plight for comphensation for victims of the Stolen Generation. Dont get me wrong I am glad that the Controversial Apology will be finally happening and that the elders will be get some kind of recognition but will this then be the end of comphensation..mmm I wonder I mean it has only been in the last 4 months that any of the Stolen Generation have been given comphensation or that the Government has spoken of putting measures in place. But it does scare me to what degree, will they expect the Stolen Generation to be satisfied. It just seems quite strange that now there is discussion of comphensation that Mr Rudd is going to Say sorry, maybe if he had done it as a special Australia/Invasion Day Apology I wouldn't be so apprehensive about the whole ordeal... Will they take away the right for the Stolen Generation to get comphensation if there is an apology. I know alot have said its not about the money but in reality of course it has to be. The Stolen Generation and there descendants continue to feel and fight the horrors of yester years. The trauma of being taken away from your family and having to live with strangers your whole life and then when you are allowed to return to your own people you are living with strangers again. I could fathom mylife if I was born 5 years before I was because I to would have been dislocated from my family and that I dont think even a lifetime of apologies could enable you to function normally again under those circumstances.. and also dont forget while the Aborignal people were not counted in the census until 1967, along with this they were not given other Basic Human Rights like other Australians at the time. To me the only way I can explain it is that they have had to start a race 179 yrs after the gun has been fired to start. Its hard and not along has been allowed for them to heal and catch up.
