Exit the Pig; Welcome the Rat; Screw the Military

Many members of the military are not so sure they want to welcome the year of the Rat, not that the Pig now exiting was good for them.  In the enlisted ranks, they've just about had it with the civilian top-echelon of command and the multiple tours to Iraq.  And the Rat could prove to be not only a carrier of pestilence in 2008 but also provide Bush, and his neocon entourage, with a scabby distraction from the looming economic bloodbath; and if you happen to be thinking "Iran", my answer to you is… bingo!

Available current data on political contributions by US military personnel to presidential candidates indicate that Ron Paul, a Republican, and Barack Obama, a Democrat, are the leading cash beneficiaries.  Interestingly enough, those are two candidates who, if elected, would bring the troops home… either immediately (Ron Paul), or within a year (Barack Obama).  Or so the promises go!

The collection plate has proven to be somewhat less generous for the hawks (McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Clinton) when it was passed along, and although there are no records of contributions by rank, it's probably safe to assume that almost all political donations for those hawks came from the commissioned officers' higher ranks.

What is an officer to do?  "It's your career, stupid!"  Little or nothing has changed from those medieval times when some people were born to preach while others were piously entrusted to bear arms; in both cases "chosen people" whose destiny was to serve God and country, the two holy banners by which people have been, throughout the millennia, killing each other, replacing love and compassion with hate and righteousness; all done in hero-worshipping ways… and in total denial of obvious criminality.

And that righteousness, forcefully expressed from the pulpit, invariably makes those men of the cloth guardians of the faith, as well as the morals that people must observe; also coming from the White House and Pentagon, assuring us that the brave military are the true defenders of freedom and democracy, sole protectors against terror. That while we are being poisoned with the government's cocktail – laced with propaganda and pseudo-patriotism… and served daily by the hooker-media – giving in to the crudest of lies from those who have self-designated to be in charge, uncontested claimants as upholders and sole translators of the US Constitution.

For years many Americans have shown resentment against what they believe to be the US role as "the world's policeman."  Those assertions have been made as indictments against wasting money overseas, and not as repudiation of systemic belligerence, or a true advocacy for peace – and the sanctity of human life.  Even today, as the American economy graduates from globalization to "bubbleization"… and we stand to become the biggest bubble reality show – where Americans are both actors and audience – it does perplex one's mind to discover the great majority of our citizenry still believing that this nation is a big Santa Claus feeding and clothing the world; and our military, a pro-bono police force whose "sacrifices" go unappreciated by the international community.

And, saddest of all, those who know better appear to do nothing to enlighten the rest!

Yesterday, February 6, Gerald Seib of the Wall Street Journal, in an article which had the feeling of an editorial, basically subscribed to the fear in our capitalist elite – always well reflected by that newspaper – that wounds being inflicted during this political campaign by and among Democrats may be difficult to heal.  And that could spell serious trouble for an America which has always been united-in-captivity; a nation kept docile and truth- suppressed, as if the clear divide did not exist.  So the elite needs to put the lid on the simmering, at times boiling, pot and hypocritically give the salute: "God bless America."

So there is a chasm between whites and blacks, Hispanics and non-Hispanics, women and men, young and old; but we don't like to spread the "horrible" truth of un-American disunity.

Give me a brake!  Ours is a "United States" not a "United People"… and just as some have experienced that "American dream," many others have had to endure that well-hidden "American nightmare."  Problems need to surface, be confronted, tackled and, hopefully, solved; we are still many years away from becoming a "United People."  Our capitalist elite have always wanted to keep us non-rebellious, under the chimera that we are a united people.  That implanted idea is likely to receive, and soon, a major jolt as the economic recession proves to be not just a two-quarter adjustment in the economy, but a true consumption lifetime adjustment that will bare naked social, economic and political flaws in our predatory capitalist system.

Meantime the US military will continue to be kept as the overworked, underpaid police force of the US capitalist elite… hoping, perhaps, for reinforcements from the NATO vassals; or, God save us, the reinstitution of the military draft.  A not too promising Year of the Rat for the United States, the Middle East, parts of South Asia… and, definitely, not the United States military.

Here we go again.
Thanks Ben, for laying it out there. It is truley sad to see where the sheep led public are going with this election. Even the idea that we are stuck with only two possibly, somewhat, war stoping canidates. We had two others who proclaimed to be anti war. The final rounds, should be presantly duking it out between those four. As this horrendous looming economic slide begins to over shadow the genocide for oil control war. I do not see Obama as the man because of his affiliation with the author of, The Grand Chess Board, Brzezinski, Presedent Carters X man. Ron Paul seems to be the only choice left for a definate try to stop to the globalization control freeks. Can just the president alone stop this movement to power hungry globlaization and a corupt congres and senate. The money bags that be, have their bets on who can accomplish best their needs, both canidates intending to reward their backers, one just more openly that the other. Even Obama, within a year after election, how many more resistors will have been ethnically cleansed from this capitalist globalization war. Its as though it is the PGNAC plan or The Grand Chess Board plan. End result is the same one, a more openly stated and phisically damaging assault, the other gives it to the public slower, to mask, yet not less so. Both adequately expose just how little differance their is between the two elite controled political parties. One offers a slight delay in the pain and shock. Reality may hit, maybe not in our life time, but at the savage loss of lives of so many other lives. It is this underhandedness of the one party that is leading me to despise them for their technics, not their supposed philosophys. Unlike the American Indians history of loss, one has to examine the various angles of intent they are directing toward these nomads on oil land, as this seems so much more contrived and planned, in our times? Yet should there be an idictment it is doubtfull that any of the elite behind this will be put on trial. Only their goverment pawns. As with WWI and WWII the politics gets analized to death, but the economic pushers and pullers seem to get the least examination or it is tainted by bias or suppressed. Finally, no matter were in the world, it is those on the very bottom who pay the biggest prices.

Hope
A NEW HOPE
We all have been living a nightmare. A vision D. Eisenhower warned of in his 1961 farewell address to the nation. In his address, Eisenhower warned of the corruption of our government, our society, and our culture by the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX. It seems that, as a nation, we have not listened. Eisenhower’s dire vision has become our reality. And from this fearful dream, this nation is waking. Our eyes are opening to the truth collectively for the first time. WE THE PEOPLE are finding that we have been subjugated, placated into ignorance and fear, lied to by the very people we have entrusted to preserve and protect our rights, liberties, and our constitution. Many will turn away in fear of truth and close their eyes once again. To open our eyes to this reality, is to also understand that we are all responsible for it as well. complacency and dependence upon the machine keeps THE PEOPLE in line because it is convenient and safe. We have sold our souls. We have as a nation let this happen to ourselves.
My heart breaks for the people of this nation. Our government wages war upon our freedoms, liberties, and our constitution. I watch our republic’s destruction, not to the sound of guns or bombs, but to the sound of thunderous applause of those held captive by terrified patriotic blindness, guided by the propaganda of fear, as we give our rights and even the lives of our fellow man for the profit of the corrupt. A fear that is erasing our great history of freedom and repeating itself 70 years later with another dictatorship of war, under the guise of homeland security and the protection of the people.
BUT THERE IS STILL HOPE.
With love and openness, we can overcome ignorance and fear. It is our right as the people, and my duty as a United States MARINE written into our constitution by our founding fathers, entrusted to us, by the people, to ensure that our liberty, freedom, and the constitution never again become the subjugation of the corruption that we have wrought upon ourselves. We must take back our country, and give it to the people. So let us open our hearts, take responsibility, and make our HOPE become our reality. Lets begin REVOLUTION. His name

World bully
Ben, thanks for a great article. I have a couple of questions though - since 95%+ vote for repubs/dems doesn't that mean that they are very United?
Also, I have never thought of the US as a World Police Force - more like a world bully intent on exploiting the rest of the world. Your view seems to me to be too kind and forgiving.

For Ms Jackowski
Duly appreciated comment, Rosemary. Sinners united in mischief... but not in the breaking of just a single commandment. And my intended definition of a World Police Force is not exactly a "peace keeping force" but a subjugating martial police force. Excellent observations.

Well stated
I am glad this was stated as explicitly as possible for all to see the picture of how it is. There is short-term memory that goes along with the ongoing generations. It\'s like biorhythm with its peaks and lows. About every two generations people rise up to make changes then it ebbs and life seems unbearable again; so much so that the new generation stands up and says enough is enough. Today we have the tools to expose the criminal activity and everyone is getting the wiser that it\'s difficult for the government\'s oligarchy to suppress what they are doing. We went through this before and we hope the younger generation wise up to the folly and make the change for the better. They need to use critical thinking rather than compliance that they teach in the schools. I supported Dennis Kucinich as the man to make the change and give us a boost. My second choice was Ron Paul; after that, I would go for perenial Ralph Nader. The USA needs someone of their tenacity to bring the USA to where it should be. Corporations should be regulated and held accountable. The people need to take their government back and not comply to the corporate oligarchy.
