Political Despair Image

I am in such despair over what is going on in the Democratic Party, I am beginning to manifest symptoms of a full-blown dissociative disorder. I have reached a level of despondency where I am beginning to think the Democrats may be unfit to govern.

I know it is vitally important to get Hillary out of this race as soon as possible. She keeps hanging on even though somewhere deep in her black little heart, she has to know that her nomination will be as big a disaster for the Party as was the that of Hubert Horatio in '68. Such are the perils of megalomania: that even a shrew d strategist like Hillary can eventually be so overcome with pride, greed, self-delusion and mendacity that she cannot even foresee her own destruction. It sounds positively Shakespearean.

Now we have the Michigan/Florida fiasco that will possibly cost the Democrats millions to restage the primaries - millions that should have been better spent on defeating McCain. Presumably this dispute will serve only the Repugs: it will weaken Dem finances, strengthen Hillary, result in a damaging, divisive convention in Denver and drain away precious days needed for campaigning against the real enemy - John McCain.

I listened to Sean Hannity the day after Hillary pulled her candidacy out of the toilet. He could barely conceal his glee. I give him credit for at least a modicum of political savvy. He and Rush have been pushing a Hillary candidacy for more than a year now. They know that she will be the easiest person for any Repug candidate to beat.

At this point, in spite of my personal reservations about Obama's character and policies, I think he is the best candidate to trounce McCain. I know Hillary has no chance to become president. I also know she has now an even shot at the nomination. Hillary is a better infighter than old Tricky Dick. She and Bill will certainly defeat Obama in the battle of the smoke-filled rooms in Denver. Prediction: If Obama does not have the race sewn up going into the convention, he will loose the nomination. Hence my despair.
