shitting in your own backyard | Print |  E-mail
By James Secor

I just read the most inane bunch of bullshit by an agency post at mwcnews. I'm amazed that such trash would make it here. Too many squat toilets in Beijing. Is the reporter in Beijing? How long has he been in China? Is the US--and its Western China-bashing allies--reaching, reaching, reaching because there's nothing else to latch onto to trash China? Let me Be succinct: EVERYWHERE IN CHINA THERE IS A PLENITUDE OF SQUAT TOILETS BECAUSE THIS IS THE KIND OF TOILET THE CHINESE USE! To claim there are too many squat toilets in Beijing (by extension, China) is to complain that there are too many sit-down toilets in America. What utter stupid tripe! It goes as news in the mainstream and, of all the gall, showing the most egregious lack of discrimination, it then appears on this site as news. Has Fox News infiltrated MWCnews, then? The article writer is also blithering because all of the hotels in Beijing (that foreigners would be staying at) have sit-down toilets, as do the stadia. The wire, and by extension services that indiscriminately repeat the wire, show how utterly mindless and stupid Western reporting really is.

Here is a real tourist tip: carry your own paper/tissue with you because most public toilets don't have paper. But, you see, that's the way it is all over China. The hotels, however, have paper right there in a wall dispenser. And then think of how many trees you're felling by wiping our ass with paper. (Environmentalists never talk of this waste of the natural resource of trees, do they, huh?) Be aware, however, that there are always sinks to wash your hands after you use the bathroom in China.

This was the news (sport section) about upcoming Olympic games and those 'visitors' that China wants there. Is not criticizing the Chinese custom and why they have different kind of toilets.

Squatting
I have lived in countries where squatting was the norm, I often thought of arthritis sufferers.
It is of course, considered by the health fraternity as a superior way of emptying ones bowels.
James, I have often wondered about the waste of forests, just to wipe ones ass. Maybe some waste products, like corn husks
or something could be used ,less face it the paper could be of the lowest quality so long as it does not scour the rear end.
I note your indignation, actually I have seen the opposite here in OZ, when an Islamic having gone into the Gents, you can hear him tearing off lots of paper to line the seat.
Lets face it
people can get trapped in the 'Box'. I think to travel, and observe the World, with an open mind,
can give insight, in other words think things through.

Squatting
Not just arthritis, Mike: hip replacements...squatting can result in displacement. I'm amazed that oldsters can manage it but I find, out in the country, that the people fashion sit-down toilets, if only putting a little strip of bamboo along the edge of the "pot" to rest their thighs on.
