A suicide bomber has killed at least four Afghan soldiers, as well as a child, in the eastern province of Khost.
The authorities said four other troops were injured when the bomber detonated his explosives in front of a military convoy, about 12km west of Khost city, on Friday. Jalaluddin Haqqani, an Afghan regional commander, claimed responsibility for the attack. His spokesman said that 12 soldiers were killed by Muhammad Hassan, a supporter of Haqqani. Suicide bombers frequently target military convoys, but civilian passers-by are often killed in such attacks. More than 140 suicide bombings were carried out in the country in the last year alone.
