I am a long-time supporter of Norman Finkelstein\'s work, and I deplore the Israelis\' decision to ban and deport him. But I do not understand the strange graphic illustrating your story. Combining the Star of David and dollar signs makes the graphic resemble a typical fascist cartoon. You need to be more careful about putting up images that are so easy to misinterpret.

Defending Ben Haine

While recognizing Richard Rubenstein\'s sensitivities, I must defend outstanding anti-racist, anti-Fascist, pro-democracy, pro-peace, pro-Humanity cartoonist Ben Heine. 
 
The Star of David represents Jewry and Judaism - but in a travesty of truth and taste has been placed on the FLAG of the nuclear terrorist, grossly human rights abusing, genocidal, anti-Arab anti-Semitic ETHNOCRACY called the State of Israel. 
 
From a 2 millennium orthodox Jewish perspective \"the State of Israel\" violates the Torah and constitutes heresy and blasphemy. 
 
Even the name is a travesty - \"Israel\" in a theological sense means \"Torah-observant Jews\" yet a majority of Jewish Israelis are effectively secular and a majority anti-Semitic in their anti-Arab anti-Semitism (as assessed from elections and opinion polling) in grossly violating the core messages from the Holocaust of \"zero tolerance for racism\" and \"never again to anyone\".  
 
The racist Zionists running Apartheid Israel are anti-Arab anti-Semitic racists in word, philosophy and appalling deed (invasion, occupation, dispossession, disempowerment, race-based Apartheid laws, mass race-based mass imprisonment of 4 million Arabs, and genocide as defined by the UN Genocide Convention (see: Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghan, Biofuel and Climate Genocides – Silence Kills and Silence is Complicity.)  
 
However they are ALSO anti-Jewish anti-Semitic as well as anti-Arab anti-Semitic by their gross denial of the core anti-racism messages from the Holocaust; by linking ALL Jews to their monstrous, racist crimes; and by putting the Star of David - the symbol of the humanitarian, \"Kingdom of the Mind\" Jewish cultural and religious tradition - on the flag of this racist ethnocracy built on racism, colonialism, genocide and Nazi-style lebensraum colonialism. 
 
A recent movie made by Klaudia Kovacs and George Adams is now being shown around the world about the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and called \"Torn from the Flag\" - reference to the removal of Communist symbolism from the centre of the Hungarian Flag during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 (see: \"Torn from the Flag\" (I was privileged to give them some research help). 
 
The Star of David should be removed from the flag of Apartheid Israel for CONVERSE reasons - the symbol of the 2 millennium beautiful and humanitarian Jewish \"Kingdom of the Mind\" should be removed from the flag of nuclear terrorist, racist, genocidal, human rights abusing ethnocracy Apartheid Israel. 
 
At an even more fundamental level, the Anglo-American-backed racist colonization of Palestine has been fundamentally about MONEY, power, hegemony and Western control of the oil-rich Middle East - THAT is why there are 5.5 million Palestinians living outside the Holy Land and forbidden to return; why 1.5 million Palestinian Israelis live as second class citizens under draconian, Nazi-style, Apartheid Laws; why 4 million Occupied Palestinians (50% children, 75% women and children) are incarcerated - now for over 40 years - without charge or trial in the Gaza, Samaria and Judaea Concentration Camps (see: Apartheid Israel’s 60 Years of War, Theft & Palestinian Genocide.  
 
The Apartheid Israel part of US-UK colonization of the Middle East per se has already cost the US taxpayer $3 TRILLION - the racist Zionist (RZ)-promoted Iraq War part (2 million post-invasion excess deaths; 4 million 1990-2008 excess deaths; 4.5 million refugees)has cost the US taxpayer another $3 TRILLION and according to Economics Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University) has \"Bankrupted America\".  
 
When the American Taxpayer has had enough the US will finally opt for Peace with equity, justice and reconciliation - something that can happen NOW and which happened (thanks to SANCTIONS and hard-nosed ECONOMICS) in formerly UK-US-Apartheid Israel-backed Apartheid South Africa.

It would appear that Dr. Finkelstein had no fear for his life in Palestinian territory, so I would assume that Israeli authorities fear for his safety because of "fanatical" elements in Israel and Israeli occupied territories, hence the need to deport for "security" reasons. Certainly the prowess of Moussad knows the whereabouts of such in-house "terrorists" and could sweep them aside while the good doctor travels swiftly by roads designed for Israelis alone to the West Bank and/or Gaza, a trip of a bit over an hour at most. Of course it may take him longer to get back since he'd be forced to travel hours to go minutes in Palestine, if not because of the back roads then because of checkpoints. It's so comforting to see the Zionist leaders "concerned" with American citizens; maybe what we need is an identification badge that testifies that Americans are good AIPAC citizens making them eligible to enter this most democratic of states.
