Five Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials have said.
Medical workers said the five were travelling in a car in the southern town of Khan Younis on Tuesday when they were hit by the strike. Israeli army confirmed an airstrike in southern Gaza, which destroyed a blue Subaru. Islamic Jihad said all the five were its members. Muawiya Hassanein, the head of Gaza emergency services, said that several other people were wounded in the raid east of Khan Younis. The blast occurred as Israel and Hamas were trying to complete a cease-fire deal after months of Egyptian mediation. At least 511 people have been killed since Israel and the Palestinians re-launched peace negotiations at a US conference in November, most of them Gazans, according to an AFP count.
