Pakistani police are investigating two large explosions heard in the garrision city of Rawalpindi.

"We have information of an explosion. We are still checking where is the site and what is the cause," Rao Mohammed Iqbal, a senior Rawalpindi police officer, said on Monday.

"All sensitive installations are clear," he said.

Rawalpindi is in the outskirts of Pakistani capital Islamabad.

Rawalpindi houses the headquarters of Pakistan's army and the residence of Parvez Musharraf, the president.

The blasts came as Pakistan was engaged in a military operation against the Taliban in its northwest tribal regions.

A month earlier, a car bomb killed at least six people near the Danish embassy in Islamabad.
