Israel and Syria have agreed to a fourth round to indirect peace talks mediated by Turkey.
Turkish authorities said on Thursday that the talks will take place in late July. Two further rounds of talks will subsequently be held in August. It is undecided whether these later rounds will be direct or indirect. The third round of indirect talks, lasting two days in Istanbul, ended on Thursday. The two countries are negotiating the future of the strategic Golan Heights. Israel took the Golan Heights, which Syria wants returned to them, in a 1967 war. A Turkish foreign ministry statement said: "The two sides reiterated their common will to continue their talks and agreement to continue meeting regularly. The talks took place in a constructive and positive atmosphere."
