Obama Picks Biden
by Chris EdelsonImage

The wait is over, thankfully, and it’s Joe Biden.  I like the pick.  Biden has enormous credibility on foreign policy–he’s the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is often descibed as a foreign policy expert and he just visited Georgia at the request of Georgia’s President.  He’s Catholic and has ties to Pennsylvania (someone on CNN just said he’d once been referred to as “the 3rd Senator from Pennsylvania”).  Biden had probably the best line of the presidential campaign so far when he said every Giuliani sentence consists of “a noun, a verb, and 9/11″.

Biden has a great personal story.  He commutes home to Wilmington every night (this will be the answer to charges he’s a Washington insider).  He’s been ranked 99th of 100 senators in terms of personal wealth, so keep the McCain, man of many houses attacks coming.  His son is going to be deployed to Iraq (I believe he’s in JAG Reserves).

McCain came out with an ad showing Biden saying he’d be homored to run with or against McCain.  To quote Obama in a different context–is that they best they’ve got?  Big deal–shows Biden can work with both parties, which is his reputation–everyone seems to like him.  My guess is the first Obama-Biden response to McCain’s VP pick (especially if it’s Romney) will be a lot more damaging.

The one thing I don’t understand about this is why the text was sent out at 3 am–was this supposed to be Obama’s 3 am moment?  Kind of weird–why do this Sat morning at 3 am?   I hope no one got woken up by a text msg.

I’m excited–and looking forward to Biden being used as an attack dog to bolster the mounting case against McCain.

So much for change...
Prick about covers it.

Though I had come to accept that Obama was no agent of \"change\" (all rhetoric) - I had secretly hoped that he might prove my perceptions wrong by picking someone who is a true Reformer or Progressive.

The choice of Senator Biden confirms my worst fears. Should this ticket make it into the White House, then there will be no significant course change for our nation. War will continue. Destruction of our economy will continue. Inattention to our nation\'s infrastructure and social safety nets will continue. Destruction of the dollar will continue... All, of course, in the service of our Ruling Corporatist Elite.

Biden is a life-long interventionist and internationalist and proud of it. He is a self-avowed Zionist (thereby assuring that we will continue to fund and promote the agendas of Israel\'s Neo-Cons, as well as, our own). He supports US and Israeli meddling and provocation in the states bordering Russia and throughout the Middle East. Several days ago, he was even calling for an emergency $1 Billion to be sent to prop up Saakashvilli!

I am sympathetic to the Senator\'s life story, but we all have family tragedies of varying degrees and a touching tale does not a leader make.

We are in deep doo-doo, folks! Obama/Biden is no better a choice that McCain/whoever.

America has better people than these and deserves better leaders. In fact, ANY of the contra-candidates running would be superior to these shills for the Establishment - Barr, McKinney, Nader. I abandoned voting for the \"lesser of evils\" more than 25 years ago and will continue to cast my support to real agents of change.
