 | | Keegan is hugely popular with the Newcastle fans | Kevin Keegan's future as Newcastle manager is in jeopardy after reports in the British media that he had been fired by the English Premier League club.
Keegan started his second spell in charge of Newcastle only seven months ago, but Sky Sports News reported today that he had been fired. Keegan is a former England player, winning 63 caps and scoring 21 goals. He played for Newcastle in 1982 helping Newcastle to promotion in his debut season. He retired in 1984 and moved into management at Newcastle in 1992, returning the club to the Premier League. Angry fans are gathering outside St. James' Park to protest the apparent decision. Keegan had been retired from coaching at the professional level until the Magpies persuaded him to return last January. But he grew frustrated at his lack of influence over transfers, including losing James Milner to Aston Villa last week and failing to secure several other players. In his first stint at Newcastle, Keegan came close to winning the league title in 1996.
