Two Actions around Robocalls by Alex Thurston No doubt some of you have heard about the intensifying robocall wars. I wanted to throw up two tools that can make a difference - the first for the country, and the second more for you personally. First, you can push back against the McCain campaign’s negative robocalls by signing this petition at Color of Change and/or by directly calling the McCain campaign office in your state (just click on the map) or the national office or the RNC. if you do any of those, you can check back in with Color of Change and let them know how it went (RNC number provided with this link). Second, to spare yourself any robocall headaches, you might try this non-partisan organization I saw promoted on CNN today. It’s called stoppoliticalcalls.org and appears to be, based on my quick research, what it says it is: a non-partisan group that wants to elevate political discourse in America. You can sign up one phone number for free, more for a small charge, and you’ll get on a list similar to the national Do Not Call Registry. If you make any calls to the McCain campaign and the RNC, please also stop back by here and let us know what happens.
Alex Thurston is currently a student in the Master's Program of Arab Studies at Georgetown University. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2005 with a BA in Religion and spent the winter of 05-06 working at various jobs around Chicago, including at the notorious 1000 Liquors. In 2006-2007, he lived in Senegal as part of the Fulbright exchange program and studied Muslim youth movements in the capital city, Dakar. His interests (other than politics and religion) include hip hop and literature. He can be reached at alex[at]theseminal.com.
