A landslide triggered by torrential rains has killed at least five people in central Indonesia.

Another 10 people are still missing, the authorities said on Friday.

Mud came tumbling down from hills surrounding Nyalindung, a village in the West Java province, following days of heavy rain, Rustam Pakaya of the Disaster Crisis Center, said.

More than 50 homes have been inundated and roads blocked, making it hard for heavy machinery to reach the disaster zone.

Residents were helping in the search for survivors, most digging with their bare hands or using farm tools.

Floods and landslides are common during the rainy season in Indonesia.

The rain showed no sign of letting up on Friday, prompting authorities to relocate more than 300 residents to nearby schools and government buildings.
