Having been raised in a coal mining town in a working class family I have learned to see the world through a working class lens. This perspective is potently political and is charged with great optomism. In spite of the horrors we may witness through exploitation and war, optomism may be in short supply. But we understand that exploitation and war are structural aberrations that are necessarily strained. This strain will eventually reach a breaking point and those artifical structures will assume their rightful place in history and sociology books. This optomism never fails to see the myriad of examples of human compassion and altruism. These qualities are most evident in community and family relations. In spite of the strain of financial devestation and threats of various kinds, human beings manage heroic efforts to ensure well being for loved ones. Working class people understand that human beings don't ask for much. The security of the basics, including love and respect, is all we ask for and it doesn't matter if we are Muslim, Jew, Christian or athiest. We, the class that work for a wage, have far more in common with each other than we do with those that exploit and destroy to secure obscene quantities of wealth. While many working class people are seduced into chauvinism and nationalism, we must speak and write from this organic working class perspective. Soldiers and resistance fighters may speak different languages and worship different Gods, but have far more in common with each other than with those that have power and control over nations and the financial structures that enslave and abuse so many good people. Fundamentally, Iraqis and American soldiers are on the same side. It is we that will, eventually, take control of our societies. In the meantime we have a monumental struggle on our collective hands. One arena in this struggle is media. MWC News as well as many other non corporate media entities are in the front lines of this battle. We are up against a system of corporate media that spends a great deal of money and energy convincing us that Muslims are evil and billionaires are the single most important master and parent we can have. The good news is that we are doing it. We are not only waging this war but in a very short time we have made impressive inroads into the consciousness of sincere and well intended people. And as we do, hopelessness and cynicism give way to outrage and hope. MWC News is but one vehicle on this journey and there are many more. MWC, Democracy Now, Counterpunch and so many other news sites have been finding inroads to the consciousness of millions of readers and our collective impact is and will be revolutionary. We are remembering where we came from and we are realizing where we're going. I personally feel priveleged to have the opportunity to contribute my views and observations to MWC News. It is a privelege to be part of this historical and global revolutionary movement. Happy birthday MWC News! ================== Archie Kennedy An associate editor of MWC is an activist/organizer and has organized in coal mines, with professionals, and with victims of poverty.
