I love Mark M. Pavely. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I have a codependent relationship with him. I have never actually met the man. I can only speculate as to his cultural/educational background. I can surmise however, that he is an avid listener to AM radio as the points he makes and the language he uses bears a more than coincidental correspondence to the ravings of Rush, Hannity, Reagan (Michael), Savage, etc. I have been trying of late to swear off the rather addictive behavior I have acquired of assaulting my local fishwrap (The Jefferson City, Missouri News Tribune) with letters expressing my chagrin concerning the sorry state of the nation. In spite of my best efforts, a letter from Mr. Pavely is all it takes to send me into relapse. When his first letter of July 10 appeared criticizing Illinois Senator, Dick Durbin, the Democrats and calling liberalism “a godless, destructive philosophy espoused by liberals to destroy America.” I did a hard swallow and went on with my life. When, on July 20, another letter to the editor appeared from Mr. Pavely calling the atrocities of Abu Ghraib, the Karl Rove scandal, and Bush’s Air National Guard behavior “non stories” as well as exhuming the specter of Clinton’s murder of Vince Foster, I just could not resist.
Some might look upon this compulsion I have to retort these certifiably deranged individuals as an even greater pathology. I would assert that it is essential to try from time to time to express the “voice of truth and reason” (sounds like Rush, doesn’t it?) just to let the crazies know that at least half the country has not gone nearly as mad as they have.
I really don’t know what else to do. All the other options seem ineffective. I seriously doubt that, after the massive election fraud of the 2000 and 2004 elections, (If you believe Bush won the ’04 election, I have some interesting reading for you) I will be voting in any national presidential election again. I have found this administration to be unresponsive to the will of the people, completely above any law that might reign in their bestial appetites and impervious to the consequences of even the most horrific scandals. Does anyone seriously believe that Karl Rove will even be dismissed let alone serve time? Dream on…
These are the last days of the Republic. Bush has crossed the Rubicon. Those who think otherwise are fooling themselves. “Well Bush can’t run again.” You say. What does it matter who the president is when Cheney (or some even more sinister Neocon) is still on the ticket as the VP?
No, I am no Brutus, or even Mark Anthony, or was meant to be. Unfortunately, I am restrained by the long since outmoded sentimentalities of respect for life and a very un-American commitment to non-violence. I do not even have the balls to urge others to unsheathe their knives to drain the life-blood from these Neo Caesars. You will not find me taking a Bolshevik bomb to a motorcade, at the shipyards attaching explosives to the hulls of ships, derailing trains or blowing troop transport planes out of the air. You will find me writing letters to the editor decrying our great national penchant for madness, chaos and death. I would urge you all to do the same. We can do nothing to stop this last great “Descent of Man.” It is even now too late for the planetary environment that has faithfully nurtured us since our birth. The best we can do is not to go quietly. That is how it will end.
After my letter (below) I have attached Mr. Pavely’s letters for those who wish to visit the source of my upset. I doubt if the Jefferson City News Tribune will ever print my letter, as the editors usually draw the line at even a moderate use of irony our wit.
Dear Editor,
I have the distinct impression that Mark M. Pavely hates liberals. I have searched in vain for the rational basis of this hatred either in the distorted facts that he presents in his regular rants in these pages, or in the tortured logic he uses to try to persuade us. His last two letters, July 10 and 20, contained more of the same. It seems that he hates and fears this country’s liberals more than he does the Islamic fundamentalists. I wish there was some way I could assuage his concerns for him.
To say that the Democrats and Liberals espouse a godless philosophy bent on destroying this country is simple, childish demagoguery. The worst thing you can say about liberals (and the press) is that too often they have lacked the courage to speak truth to power. That is why Dick Durban apologized for a rare piece of honest outrage at American atrocities. That is why the “non story” of Karl Rove’s crime has been ignored by the press lo these many months. That is why everyone was so easily diverted from the real issue of Bush’s preferential treatment while serving in the Air National Guard.
In some ways, like Mr. Pavely, I too hate the liberals and the press. The timidity of their political opponents and the spineless conduct of the forth estate has emboldened the current power brokers in Washington more than any degree of public apathy could ever do. Torture people? Sacrifice the intelligence community and national security in pursuit of a political vendetta? Lie? Cheat? Steal? It’s OK. No one will notice. And if anyone dares speak up, call them a disloyal, godless traitor who would give aid and comfort to the enemy, place our troops in harms way and destroy a sitting president in time of war. That should do it.

I might add that he is a typical liberal Democrat. In my opinion, he has aided and abetted the enemy with his ridiculous statements concerning our treatment of terrorist prisoners. His statement will undoubtedly lead to more deaths of American soldiers. If you are a Democrat, you might consider taking a closer look at your party and its values if, it has any values. Are they your values, are they American values? I don't think so. If we wish to win the war against terrorism, we must first defeat liberalism in our own country or at least expose it for the evil that it is. Liberalism is a godless, destructive philosophy espoused by liberals to destroy America and the things America has stood for the past 200 plus years. Read the quote from Mr. Durbin. "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners." If you would like to confirm the above quote all you need to do go to Mr. Durbin's homepage and read it for yourself. Keep in mind that no matter what the liberals would have you to believe, this nation was basically founded on belief in Jesus Christ as our Savior. Pray for this nation! It needs it. Mark M. Pavely Jefferson City Posted: Wednesday, Jul 20, 2005 - 07:33:55 pm CDT From our readers Rove non-story Dear Editor: The Karl Rove story that the national media has been trying to push on the American public is a non-story and has been a non-story since they first introduced it. The so-called Abu Graib prison scandal was also a non-story blown out of proportion to demoralize our soldiers and the American public by our leftist liberal mainstream media. Ex-news anchor Dan Rather did his level best to bring down President George Bush with his made-up National Guard story proclaiming that our president didn't fulfill his duties while in the Texas National Guard. The above stories are but a small example of what our leftist national news media and Democratic Party have been doing to destroy our president and his ability to govern. For eight long years we were under a truly immoral administration known as the Clinton administration. If the national news media were truly wanting to expose scandals in an administration, there were abundant opportunities to do so while the Clintons were in office. Some examples would be the 500 FBI files found in the Clinton White House. There was also Janet Reno and the fiery furnace she produced in Waco, Texas, not to mention Vince Foster who advised the Clintons and supposedly committed suicide in a national park. The news media is to report the news, not create it. Who they vote for and who they support is irrelevant; however when they create stories to destroy a sitting president they must be exposed. This nation will continue to be blessed as long as Christians continue to be vigilant and expose leftist propaganda for what it is. God bless this nation. Mark M. Pavely Jefferson City
