Blind Stupidity

There is this characteristic stupidity to humanity that I'm not sure how to explain, though part of it is surely and obedience to authority; that is, unless we're told, we don't see; and when we're told something is X we don't see that it's really Q. Truth doesn't register. Selective ignorance. It also affects "the left" a kind of amorphous group of discontents that run the gamut from anarchy (by people who've conveniently forgotten the definition) through hubris to hypocrite (people who simply want to replace the haves with themselves but hide behind "isms"). H. L. Mencken and Ambrose Bierce might have something witty and incisive to say, but I'm not so inclined or creative. I will simply call a spade a spade, whether it be a shovel, a suit in a deck of cards or a black person: people are just stupid.

Let me explain. . .

Pictures from Iraq on mainstream, government controlled TV showed (glorious) mushroom clouds. Now. . no one at all has commented on this. The signature of an atomic (nuclear) explosion is. . .a mushroom cloud. No other bomb (explosive) makes a mushroom cloud. Americans, for the most part, don't even see this, which the discontented anti-fascists, anti-capitalists, anti-war protestors and anti- Bushites. . . debate whether unclear weapons have been used in Iraq. Despite the visual proof! Most Americans, too, forget that the U.S. is the first and only country to use nuclear weapons (1945). We even pretend, along with Bush et al., that depleted uranium is not uranium, that is, not nuclear.

On the other side of the globe, the Chinese government is fond of telling its citizenry (and the world) that there are only a few nuclear power plants in the North. Nuclear power plants have a very distinctive smoke stack, if I may be excused for using an ancient word. No other smoke stack from any other type of power plant is like this kind of smoke stack. But the Chinese remain blind to nuclear power plants' existence elsewhere, especially in the North Central Plains (south of Beijing). Some can be seen butted up against petrol stations and in densely populated areas. Because the government told the Chinese people so, they don't exist (but in the north). Like the U.S. government has denied the use of nuclear weapons.

Nobody's home.

A mushroom cloud is a mushroom cloud. It means only one thing.

A nuclear power plant smoke stack is a nuclear power plant smoke stack. It means only one thing.

Uranium is uranium--and uranium is radioactive (nuclear). Depleted or not depleted.

Y'know, psychologists tell us that when we see something that isn't there that we're delusional. The same holds for not seeing what is there, that is, we see nothing when nothing isn't there.
