Indian Republic Day & Australia Day
26 January is the Republic Day of India which commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into force, replacing the British Government of India Act 1935 (26 January 1950), noting that India achieved Independence from Britain on 15 August 1947.
The 26th of January was chosen to commemorate the declaration of Indian independence in 1930. 26 January is Australia Day for White Australians and Invasion Day for Indigenous Australians (Black Australians, Aborigines, Aboriginals), commemorating the British invasion of Australia on 26 January 1788. It is salutary to compare India, Australia and their considerable interactions, of which most - notably excepting those on the cricket field - have been kept from public perception.
1. Cultural diversity
India (population 1.2 billion) is a rich amalgam of numerous ancient cultures that thrive in a genuinely multicultural society. However that picture is perturbed by the horrible realities of British-effected Partition (18 million refugees and about 1 million people killed), subsequent communal violence between Muslims and Hindus in particular, and the current foreign-backed Indian Government war on tribal Indians for their land and resources. Legacies in India of 2 centuries of British rule are English as a lingua franca, British-derived institutions and law, a minority Anglo-Indian culture and cricket (these all being attributes of contemporary British-derived Australian culture).
Australia (population 22 million) was violently settled by the British (English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh) from 1788 onwards. British settlement of Australia was strategically linked to British defeat of France for primacy in India. Major Continental European immigration occurred after World War 2 and significant Asian immigration after cessation of the notorious White Australia Policy and the Vietnam War in the 1970s. The rich, continent-wide Aboriginal culture involved some 500 tribes and 250 languages, of which only about 50 survive today after over 2 centuries of a continuing Aboriginal Genocide and continuing Aboriginal Ethnocide. In the first century after invasion the Aboriginal population dropped through violence, dispossession and disease from about 1 million to about 0.1 million.
Horrendous deprivation and a sustained policy of removal of Aboriginal children from their mothers continued the Aboriginal Genocide into the 20th century. Until after the 1967 Referendum Aborigines were counted under the Flora and Fauna Act but were thence counted as Australians and could be protected by passage of Federal legislation. The 1975 Racial Discrimination Act, cessation of child removal (the so-called Stolen Generations) and successes in Native Title cases gave cause for hope but horrendous deprivation, racist legislation and crippling Educational Apartheid mean a continuing Aboriginal Genocide and Aboriginal Ethnocide (Google Aboriginal Genocide” ).
2. War and genocide
India was subject to invasion and was essentially not the perpetrator of invasion for thousands of years. India was the victim of the British-imposed Indian Holocaust involving 1,800 million Indian avoidable deaths from deprivation under British rule (1757-1947) and the WW2 Bengali Holocaust involving the deliberate starving to death of 6-7 million Indians by the British in 1942-1945 (Australia as a key part of the British Empire was involved in both atrocities). Post-Independence Indian had border wars with Pakistan and China, and has conducted a brutal suppression of Muslims in Kashmir and of tribal Indians in Central and Eastern India. Under the British Indian soldiers, sepoys, were use to suppress India and to support the British Empire elsewhere. The Indian Rebellion in 1857 (the Indian Mutiny according to the British) was spearheaded by sepoys but was brutally suppressed and followed by a decade of butchery in which the British murdered 10 million Indians in revenge for the killing of 2,000 British during the rebellion (see “War of Civilizations: 1857 AD” by Amaresh Misra).
Well-fed sepoys helped the British maintain dominance over a population kept near the edge of starvation and famine was a frequent recurrence in India under the British from 1769-1770 in Bengal (when 10 million Indians perished) to 1942-1945 in Bengal and eastern India (when the British with Australian complicity deliberately starved 6-7 million Indians to death). During World War 2 a total of 2.4 million Indians served in the British Indian Army while millions of their fellow countrymen starved to death. Australia followed British orders in withholding grain from starving India and it has been estimated that the grain imported into India in 1942-1945 was only sufficient to feed the 2 million Indian solders stationed there to maintain British rule (see Gideon Polya, “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History”; Madhusree Mukerjee, “Churchill’s Secret War”; and Gideon Polya, “Bengal Famine. How Australia & UK killed 6-7 million Indians in WW2”, MWC News, 27 September 2011: http://mwcnews.net/focus/editorial/13742-bengal-famine.html ).
Australia has been involved in genocide since its inception in 1788 and indeed has a secret genocide history involving 24 genocide atrocities in which it has been complicit, of which 6 are ongoing. Space does not permit even a succinct summary of these atrocities: the 18th – 19th century Aboriginal Genocide, Tasmanian Genocide, British Indian Genocide, European Chinese Genocide, Maori Genocide, African Genocide, Pacific Genocide, Boer (Afrikaaner) Genocide, Armenian Genocide, Bengali Genocide, British post-1950 Third World Genocide, US post-1950 Third World Genocide, Australian Colonial Genocide, 20th century Aboriginal Genocide, and the following ongoing genocides, namely the Palestinian Genocide, Iraqi Genocide, Afghan Genocide, Ongoing Aboriginal Genocide, Biofuel Genocide, Climate Genocide, Tamil Genocide, Muslim Genocide, Asian Genocide, and Arab Genocide. Thus, for example, in the ongoing Aboriginal Genocide 9,000 Aborigines die avoidably each year out of an Indigenous population of 0.5 million and this occurring in one of the richest countries in the world. However in politically correct racist Australia the Awful Truth is utterly ignored – thus a search of the taxpayer-funded ABC (Australia’s equivalent of the UK BBC) for these genocide terms reveals almost zero coverage (Google “ABC Censorship”).
While Australia is peaceful at home it has helped the UK and the US spread oppression, death and destruction around the World. Australian forces have seen action in Belgium, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Russia (Europe), South Africa, Libya, Egypt, Sudan (Africa), and in Turkey, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Burma, Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, Papua New Guinea, East Timor (Asia and Pacific). Australia has participated in all post-1950 US Asian wars, conflicts that have been associated, so far, with violent deaths and avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation totaling over 30 million, the breakdown being 4 million (Korea), 17 million (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos), 4.6 million (Iraq), and 5.0 million (Afghanistan). In the post-war era Australia helped the US do to Asia – from Palestine to Korea - what the Nazi Germany had done to Eastern Europe in WW2.
3. Democracy and social justice
India has been a Parliamentary Democracy since the departure of the rapacious British except for the June 1975 – March 1977 State of Emergency period that enabled PM Indira Gandhi to rule by decree, suspend elections and abrogate civil liberties. However the Indian political system is notoriously violent and corrupt and has yielded government by the very rich for the very rich (see the movie “Slumdog Millionaire” and read the novel “White Tiger” by Aravind Adiga).
The result of this perversion of the democratic process is endemic poverty for 80% of the population that is reflected in appalling social statistics from UNICEF and the WHO: Total adult literacy rate (%), 2005-2008, 63; Gross national income per capita (PPP international $) 2,930; Life expectancy at birth m/f (years) 63/66; Probability of dying under five (per 1 000 live births) 66; Probability of dying between 15 and 60 years m/f (per 1 000 population) 250/169; Total expenditure on health per capita (Intl $, 2009) 132; Total expenditure on health as % of GDP (2009) 4.2.
A fundamental measure of societal health is avoidable death (avoidable mortality, excess death, excess mortality, or deaths that did not have to happen) that as a percentage of the Indian population was 0.35% in 2003 whereas this was 0% for China and Australia (see “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”by Gideon Polya). This means that 3.7 million Indians die every year due to corruption-linked deprivation (2003 data), a shocking indictment of Indian democracy. However to put this in perspective, the avoidable death rate in India in 1947 under the racist, genocidal British was a shocking 3.3%.
Australia was among the world’s first countries for democracy, universal suffrage (votes for everyone including women but not for Aborigines), free, compulsory secular education, and free trade unions. These things that most European countries now take for granted were in place in British-ruled Australia in the late 19th century. Of course this was “democracy for Whites” as in Apartheid South Africa and in Apartheid Israel today. Data from UNICEF and WHO show that Australia is vastly better than India in key social statistics: Total adult literacy rate (%) (3003) 98%, Gross national income per capita (PPP international $) 37,250; Life expectancy at birth m/f (years) 80/84; Probability of dying under five (per 1 000 live births) 5; Probability of dying between 15 and 60 years m/f (per 1 000 population) 79/45; Total expenditure on health per capita (Intl $, 2009) 3,382; Total expenditure on health as % of GDP (2009) 8.5. However the relevant statistic for Australian Aborigines are appalling: the avoidable death rate is 1.8% (as compared to 0.35% for India) and 2.0% in the Northern Territory (population 213,000, Aboriginal population 69,000) and according to Professor Helen Hughes, Educational Apartheid means that “Some 10,000 young men and women in the Northern Territory are functionally illiterate because of the appalling lack of education” (Google “Educational Apartheid”). While Australia is a peaceful Western-style democracy the harsh reality is that Australia is a Murdochracy (Big Money, notably of the Murdoch media empire, buys public perceptions and votes) and a Lobbyocracy (Big Money buys politicians and public policy).
4. Racism, Apartheid and Apartheid Israel
India is remarkable in that 80% of the population lives in dire poverty in a democracy in which there is government by and for the very rich. India has attempted legislatively to achieve equal rights for “untouchables” and has vigorously intervened to contain communal violence. India led the World against colonialism and the evil of Apartheid in US-, UK-, Apartheid Australia – and Apartheid Israel-backed Apartheid South Africa, noting that Indians were targets of Apartheid South African racist laws. However today Apartheid Israel is the only Apartheid state in the world (although Australia has enacted race-based laws applying to Northern Territory Aborigines).
On November 10 1975 the UN General Assembly in Resolution 3379 supported by countries including India declared that it “"determines that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination". The US, UK, Apartheid Israel, Canada, New Zealand, EU countries, US puppets, Apartheid South Africa puppet Swaziland and Australia under the Labor Whitlam Government all voted “no”. US South American puppets and the Apartheid South Africa puppet Botswana abstained. However this resolution was revoked by Resolution 46/86 on December 16, 1991, with India now joining with 110 other countries to in effect support genocidal racism by Apartheid Israel that has been described by heroes in the fight against Apartheid as worse than Apartheid in South Africa. Apartheid Israel today has close military and intelligence ties with India and is very likely to be closely involved in the violent Indian suppression of tribal Indians just as it has been in the genocide of Guatemalan Indians, Colombian Indians, Ethiopians, Eritreans and Tamils.
It is appalling that Indians, who suffered genocide at the hands of pro-Zionist Churchill in 1942-1945 (6-7 million killed) and suffered egregiously under Apartheid Israel-backed Apartheid South Africa, should now have a government that is in bed with racist, genocidal, anti-Asian Apartheid Israel. Israeli Ambassador to Australia Naftali Tamir put it thus in advocating closer Australian-Israel ties: “"We are in Asia without the characteristics of Asians. We don't have yellow skin and slanted eyes. Asia is basically the yellow race. Australia and Israel are not - we are basically the white race." (“Envoy to Australia to explain “yellow skin” remarks”, Haaretz, 16 October 2006).
Australia was founded based on racist invasion and genocide and as outlined above in part 2, the Aboriginal Genocide is continuing as well as its participation in other genocidal atrocities and extraordinary ignoring of these horrible realities. The notorious White Australia Policy was set up after Australian independence from Britain in 1901 but due to UK pressure to avoid offending non-European British subjects, including hundreds of millions of Indian, Asian, African, Pacific Island and North and South American non-European subjects, the enabling Australian Immigration Restriction Act 1901 left the exclusion on the basis of race to the discretion of government and immigration officials. But everyone knew the racist reality and this despicable policy that in reality discriminated against Indians in particular was only finally removed in 1974, 7 years after Australians voted in 1967 to start counting Aborigines as human beings rather than with kangaroos, koalas and other creature under the Flora and Fauna Act. North West Australia was proposed as the site for a Jewish Homeland but this proposal was scotched by PM John Curtin in 1944.
However the Zionist Lobby (Israel Lobby) has huge influence in Australia with both the major parties, the Liberal-National Party (Coalition) and the Labor Party (collectively known as the Lib-Labs). Thus in 2010, after the Apartheid Israelis were found to have been forging Australians passports for terrorist purposes and had violently kidnapped 5 Australians in International waters, the weak Labor Government response evoked raged in the Israel Lobby. The Labor Government tried to mend fences with the powerful Israel Lobby and in 2010 signed a $349 million defense contract that put racist Zionists at the heart of Australia’s defense (see “Activist questions contract”, Sydney Morning Herald, 27 October 2010).
In June 2010, after a final vain attempt to mollify the Zionist Lobby, PM Kevin Rudd, elected in 2007 with a landslide victory, but who had run foul of the Mining Lobby, was unceremoniously dumped in a 24 hour coup that was led by the most notorious pro-Zionists of the Labor Party (see Antony Loewenstein, “Does the Zionist Lobby have blood on its hands in Australia?”, 10 July 2010). On 10 November1975 Australia under Labor PM Gough Whitlam (deposed as PM by the Governor General on 11 November 1975) voted against the “Zionism is racism” UN Motion 3379, and on 16 December 1991 under Labor PM Bob Hawke (deposed as PM by Paul Keating on 20 December 1991) sponsored and voted for the rescinding motion 46/86. A document sent to Australian MPs and the Australian Federal Police detailing Zionist threats to Australia has been ignored (see Gideon Polya, “50 ways Racist Zionists threaten & Israeli State Terrorism (IST) threatens Australia & YOUR country too”, Bellaciao, 24 March 210). The pro-Zionist Gillard Government recently agreed to 2,500 Marines from the Zionist-beholden US to be stationed in Darwin, Northern Territory, and also recently announced that it would recruit defense personnel from US Alliance countries with offers of citizenship, these likely including genocidal Apartheid Israeli war criminals.
5. Nuclear technology, nuclear weapons and nuclear states
India is not a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and like its big neighbors China and Pakistan is a nuclear weapons power. After over 2 centuries of genocidal foreign rule and after border conflict with Pakistan and China, one supposes that India feels the need for a nuclear deterrent. On the positive side, India is a major player in the development of thorium-based nuclear technology which is much safer than current uranium-based nuclear power technology.
Australia is a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but while it has refused until recently to supply uranium to NPT non-signatory India, Australia permitted UK nuclear and missile testing on its soil, is a major uranium producer, supplies uranium to nuclear weapons states China, the UK, the US and France, leads the world in laser-based uranium enrichment technology, hosts key US nuclear terrorism infrastructure, hosts US nuclear-armed ships, is expanding US military use of Australian bases and, after the US and UK, is the strongest supporter in the World of racist, genocidal, war criminal, nuclear terrorist Apartheid Israel that is daily threatening to bomb peaceful, remote, NPT-signatory and non-nuclear weapons state Iran.
Iran repeatedly declares that it does not want nuclear weapons and wants a nuclear weapons-free Middle East. The hypocrisy, cowardice, dishonesty and intrinsic treason of the pro-Zionist, pro-US, pro-war Labor Government and the pro-Zionist, pro-US, pro-war Liberal-National Party Coalition are revealed by their support for nuclear terrorist Apartheid Israel and warmongering hostility to non-nuclear and antinuclear Iran. Iran is a world leader in the war on opiate drugs and some 4,000 Iranian police and soldiers have died trying to stem the flow of opiate drugs from US-, NATO- and Australia-occupied Afghanistan. It is estimated that 1 million people have died since 2001 due to US restoration of the Taliban-destroyed Afghan opium industry, this including 200,000 Americans, 18,000 British and 3,600 Australians. The Australian Lib-Labs have been complicit in the mass murder of 1 million people world wide – including 3,600 Australians - at the behest of the war criminal nuclear terrorist states the US, UK and France and their genocidal policies in Afghanistan (for details Google “Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide”).
6. Climate change, climate debt, climate credit
India has a very low annual per capita greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution as measured in units of “tones CO2-equivalent per person per year” (2005-2008 data): 0.9 (Bangladesh), 0.9 (Pakistan), 2.2 (India), less than 3 (many African and Island countries), 3.2 (the Developing World), 5.5 (China), 6.7 (the World), 11 (Europe), 16 (the Developed World), 27 (the US) and 30 (Australia; or 64 in 2010 if Australia’s huge Exported CO2 pollution is included). Top UK climate scientists Dr James Lovelock and Professor Kevin Anderson have both estimated that only about 0.5 billion humans will survive this century due to unaddressed, man-made climate change.
Noting that the world population is expected to reach 9.5 billion by 2050 (UN Population Division) , these estimates translate to a climate genocide involving deaths of 10 billion people this century, this including roughly twice the present population of particular mainly non-European groups, specifically 6 billion under-5 year old infants, 3 billion Muslims in a terminal Muslim Holocaust, 2 billion Indians, 1.3 billion non-Arab Africans, 0.5 billion Bengalis, 0.3 billion Pakistanis and 0.3 billion Bangladeshis (Google “Climate Genocide”). Yet India is one of the best countries in relation to GHG pollution. Thus in 2009 the WBGU that advises the German Government on climate change estimated that for a 75% chance of avoiding a disastrous 2C temperature rise (EU policy) the world can emit no more than 600 billion tones of carbon dioxide (CO2) between 2010 and zero emissions in 2010.
At current rates of emissions India has over 40 years left before reaching zero emissions but climate criminal Australia had used up its “fair share” of this terminal pollution budget in mid-2011 and is now stealing the entitlement of countries such as Bangladesh (over 80 years to go) (see Gideon Polya, “Shocking analysis by country of years left to zero emissions:”, Green Blog, 1 August 2011). Another way of looking at this is to assess Net Carbon Debt (Net Climate Debt) which equals Historical Carbon Debt for fossil fuel burning since 1750) minus Carbon Credit (Climate Credit) (from the WBGU-estimated terminal CO2 pollution budget). While the US has a Net Carbon Debt of 72, 244 million tones CO2, China and India have a net Carbon Credit of 85,558 and 94,971 million tones, respectively ( i.e. China and India are”permitted” to make this additional CO2 pollution) (see Gideon Polya, “Analysis by country if fossil fuel burning-based Carbon Debt and Carbon Credit”, Green Blog, 25 January 2012).
Australia’s annual per capita GHG pollution is the highest in the Developed World and is 29 times greater than that of India and 71 times greater than that of Bangladesh. As indicated above, Australia has already used up its “fair share” of the World’s terminal CO2 pollution budget and is now stealing the entitlement of impoverished and climate change-threatened countries like Somalia and Bangladesh. The pro-coal, pro-gas, anti-environment and profoundly dishonest Australian Labor Government has introduced a Carbon Tax-ETS scheme that pretends to “tackle climate change” but which in reality means that Australia’s Domestic plus Exported GHG pollution will increase 1.7-fold by 2020 and increase 4.2-fold by 2050 relative to that in 2000. While India has a Carbon Credit (Climate Credit) of 94,971 million tones CO2 (equivalent to $9.4 trillion at $100/tonne of CO2) Australia has a Carbon Debt (Climate Debt) of 3,631 million tones CO2 (equivalent to $363 billion at $100/tonne CO2). While the US Carbon Debt is increasing at about 10% per year, that of Australia is increasing at 39% per year.
While the World cannot do much about the criminality of the US or US-protected Apartheid Israel except by boycotts and sanctions, climate criminal and war criminal Australia (population 22 million) is disproportionately threatening India and the World but is vastly more vulnerable to international action via boycotts, sanctions, green tariffs, International Court of Justice (ICJ) litigations, International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutions, demands for war crimes reparations, and demands by Island States and mega-delta nations like India in particular for payment of the $363 billion of Carbon Debt (Climate Credit) Australia owes the International Community.
On this 26 January Indian Republic Day and Australia’s Australia Day (aka Invasion Day) it is useful to compare the 2 nations in key areas. While Australia is currently thrashing India at Test cricket, India is part of the solution to the acute threat of man-made global warming whereas dog-in-the-manger Australia is a major part of the problem. Both Australia and India must do everything they can to resist subversion by racist, war criminal Neocon American and Zionist Imperialists. India urgently needs to genuinely democratize as does Murdochracy and Lobbyocracy Australia.
The climate criminal, war criminal and politically correct racist Australian Lib-Labs need to be exposed, brought to account and sidelined as do those keeping 80% of Indians in wretched poverty. Only Mainstream media lying (Google “Mainstream Media Lying”) enables the corrupt Australian Lib-Labs and the corrupt Indian Establishment to get away with their crimes against Humanity.
As outstanding Australian novelist Peter Carey has stated: “If you really want to know what's happening the world, you go out and get drunk with journalists and they will tell you what isn't in the papers.” Brilliant Indian writer Arundhati Roy has put it succinctly: “The ultimate privilege of the élite is not just their deluxe lifestyles, but deluxe lifestyles with a clear conscience.” Please tell everyone you can so we can break thorough the Mainstream media Wall of Silence.
