By Shahram Vahdany

Sen. John McCain will win the New Hampshire GOP primary.

Democratic Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are in a tight race, early results show.

Clinton and Obama are within 2 percentage points of each other as early vote counts come in.

With 13 percent of precincts counted, Clinton had 38 percent of the vote to Iowa caucus winner Obama's 36 percent. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards had 17 percent. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson had 4 percent, and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich had 1 percent.

Edwards will finish third,

With 12 percent of Republican precincts reporting, McCain had 37 percent of the vote. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was second with 28 percent, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the winner of last week's Iowa GOP caucuses followed with 12 percent.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had 9 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul had 9 percent.

Voters turned out in higher-than-expected numbers Tuesday, with a sizable chunk making decisions on who to support at the last minute, according to early exit polls.

Respectable Showing
That is quite a respectable showing by Romney. I was expecting maybe 21%. Romney is certainly in the winner's ballpark and not the losers' ballpark.

Not sure what this says for Huckabee, who scored less than half of what Mitt did, but more than either Ron Paul or Giuliani.

As for McCain, I am surprised by his numbers, too. I expected 31%, and he did even better, but the numbers seem to have come from Huckabee, Thompson, Giuliani, and Paul rather than from Romney.

Great race, and this will put McCain on the map, although distantly behind Romney in terms of total delegates to date.
