Gravel: Take Bush to The Hague | Print |  E-mail
By Shahram Vahdany

Former Democratic candidate Mike Gravel says President George W. Bush should be taken to The Hague for war crimes rather than being impeached.

In a Monday video conference with Press TV, the former Alaska senator said President Bush does not 'deserve' to be impeached for invading Afghanistan and Iraq, which has resulted in the loss of 'millions of lives'.

"An Impeachment just means you would only take away his (Bush's) presidency. Well, he is almost done (with) his presidency. What really needs to happen is that these people have to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed," the 78-year-old Democrat said referring to the US president and Vice President Dick Cheney.

"If you impeach president and vice president, Nancy Pelosi is going to become president; that is not going happen," Gravel added.

Gravel is an outspoken advocate of impeaching Bush and Cheney over the disinformation campaign they have led in support of their go-to-war policies.
"There is a lot of very good news that makes me tremendously hopeful that we as a nation are starting to wake up and insist our congressional representatives act to make impeachment happen now," he had said in a statement in January after congressman Dennis Kucinich announced plans to introduce articles of impeachment against President Bush.

thorn in the side of the establishment
Gravel is absolutely correct. It is far better to TRY Bush for war crimes, crimes against the peace and crimes against humanity than merely impeaching.

However, if Bush is impeached and removed, he SIMPLY MUST be charged under US Codes, Title 18, Section 2441 which covers the CAPITAL CRIMES that Bush has most certainly committed and for which there is now an open and shut case to be found even in the public record.

'Capital' means that Bush, when he is found guilty, could be put to death in the US under US Codes.

IMPEACH --but also TRY Bush at the Hague and in US Federal Court.

Act!
Some action must be initiated against these criminals - yesterday!

If nothing is done, then the next occupant of our \"throne\" will surely expand these policies and make it ever more difficult to recapture our country.

There must be accountability and it must start now!

Thank you to Dennis Kucinich for being brave enough to stand up! Thank you to Sen. Gravel for speaking up, too...

Pathos
Sadly, Lester37's comments reflect the feelings/beliefs of a significant portion of the population.

It is remarkable that so many of our fellow citizens continue to be so easily manipulated by the Ruling Elite.

As their jobs are destroyed, as their sons and daughters are sacrificed for the interests of Amerika, Inc., as our infrastructure and social support mechanisms implode, as the Constitution is subverted, they still hold on to the fairy tale belief that those in power are defending the country and American values.

By acting illegally and immorally, by breaking national and international law, by killing millions of innocent people across the planet, and by killing and maiming tens of thousands of American servicemen and women, the Powers-that-be demonstrate their extreme criminality. That anyone can defend this - even if operating under some mis-guided patriotism - is tragic.

Though it is unlikely that they will take advice from this old US Army veteran, Lester37 and his fellow-travelers need to awaken to the fact that they are threatened as much or more than those of us they choose to bad mouth. When the round-ups begin, they will come for the Good Old Boys (and Girls), too, you may be assured.

In Peace and Hope...
