Israel cannot exist a single day without a crisis, says UAE paper | Print |  E-mail

“Israel cannot exist a single day without a crisis”, said a major United Arab Emirates (UAE) paper in its editorial.

Briefly analysing Israel's history since the day it was established on Arab lands 60 years ago, the ‘Gulf Today’ wrote under the title: “Real reasons for Israel in crisis”:

“Since the day it was created in Palestine 60 years ago, Israel has always been embroiled in crisis after crisis, all of them its own creation, direct or otherwise. It is as if Israel cannot exist for a single day without a crisis. It leaves the world wondering what it is all about and why Israel never wavers from its aggressive policies in the name of security of its people.

“An answer to that question lies in the peculiar nature of the Jewish state and its alliance with the West, particularly the United States.

“First of all, Israel was and is not a normal country. Its foundation is in theology and not geography. It is a creation rooted in myth, custom, and a sense of ‘injustice’ linked to the Holocaust.

“As such, Israel could not exist without international support. It needs to keep the West, particularly the U.S., reminded of its existence all the time lest the support it needs might wither away. Israel is the recipient of the highest amount of U.S. aid, both official and private. It cannot hope to survive itself without U.S. assistance.

“The ongoing Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip is the latest crisis Israel has created in order to influence U.S. public opinion in its favour as a country among hostile forces exercising its right to defend itself.

“Today, the U.S. has allowed itself to be transformed into Israel's permanent sponsor and protector and without the unconditional military and political support of the U.S. Israel could not hope to survive for long.

“That is one of the key reasons that Israel engages itself in or creates crises on a regular basis. That is why it also creates a constant stream of pro-Israel propaganda directed at the U.S. people in order to justify the unlimited financial and military aid that flows to Israel from the U.S.

“It wants to maintain an image of a country which is in constant danger. An end to the Arab-Israeli conflict means the erosion of the image Israel has created for itself and that is why the Jewish state rebuffs all attempts to work out an Arab-Israeli peace settlement.

“As such, without unravelling the real reasons for Israel being in a state of eternal crisis and the specific nature of its relationship with the U.S. and letting the U.S. people know about it, there is no hope whatsoever for peace in the Middle East,” concluded the paper.
